| itchiness from royal canin yorkshire 28?! out of desperation to find a kibble that my picky picky picky tookie would eat, i decided to try Royal Canin yorkshire 28 because of customer reviews. I tried Canidae, Solid Gold, and Natural Balance kibbles but was tired of wasting money on bags of food that tookie would eat for a couple days and then starve himself. Although I was aware of the bad ratings the food got on www.dogfoodanalysis.com due to its ingredient list (corn, chicken meal, chicken fat, etc) i just wanted tookie to eat hard kibble for the sake of his teeth. He LOVES natural balance food rolls and gobbles it all up, but I still wanted to find a hard kibble for him. With no hope, i bought my first bag and low and behold... tookie eats it! And after 2 weeks, he still eats it progressively throughout the day. Now, I did notice an major increase in his daily itching. Yet, he still eats it!? Is he having an allergic reaction to the food or do you think he'll eventually overcome the itchiness? Also, I've noticed when I mix the Natural Balance food rolls in his kibble, he picks out all the Natural Balance and eats it and leaves the kibble. However, when give him just kibble, he eats the kibble towards the end of then night because he gets hungry. Should I wean out the Natural Balance all together? I just don't want him getting picky with the kibble I finally found for him. Let me know your input. |

| One of mine had an allergic reaction to the RC YT as well. It actually landed us with a vet visit in the middle of the night. I have actually heard of many people who have made the same claims as far as the itching. It made two of the other family Yorkies throw up every time they ate it. As far as the website you mentioned, keep in mind the 'analysis' is only based on educated guesses and opionions of the site editors. IMO, you shouldn't use it alone to select your dog's diet. Choose a food that best fits your dog and make sure to supplement the diet as needed. Look into the option of supplementing home cooked foods to provide the needed nutrients not provided by kibble alone. |

| Royal Canin does cause quite a bit of itchiness in quite a few dogs. I would stop feeding it immediately. That is an allergic reaction. I had Ellie on an RC Vet diet and she started chewing her paws, scratching her ears and jaws. It didn't let up and the vet had to give her an anti-inflammatory shot. There are a lot of complaints about Royal Canin doing this. The itchiness could last for about sixty days after you switch foods. By the way, there is nothing wrong with chicken meal and nothing wrong with chicken fat. I really don't think you have to feed kibble at all...

| It does sound like an allergic reaction, and I'd keep searching for something else he enjoys that doesn't give him the itches.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm...well, may I ask why you are insisting on kibble? Bc they don't have to have it - it does not "clean teeth" as the myth goes (just like eating crunchy stuff doesn't clean our teeth - just gets stuck in our teeth like in our dogs). If it were me, I'd get him off the RC bc if his itching is increasing - he is allergic and this could progress to worse things: digestive issues, obsessive paw licking/arm biting, hot spots, skin issues - all kinds of messes. I'd either just feed the food rolls and give some chew thingys for teeth. Or, if you want him to have kibble, choose the best you can find and mix well w/ the food roll. I'd recommend Innova Evo, Orijen, Nature's Variety Instinct, Evangers - stuff like that. Hope you find something that works!

| My dogs developed reaction to it too. We switched to Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul and they have been eating that for 2 years and doing so well on it. If it were me I would stick to the dry food only. I had very picky dogs at one time and since i got strict and only gave the kibble i chose for them, they all eat and when i give it to them. |
