Mango is sick-please help!!! About an hour ago Mango started vomiting. It is a clear, bubbly fluid with a tinge of yellow. She vomited many times and the last time, started shaking when she was finished. I rushed her to the Vet immediately. I had to leave her there for a few hours for monitoring and testing. Her energy level since the last episode seems normal. I have no idea what caused this. Her diet consists of Evangers ALS kibble, mixed with Merrick Grammy Pot Pie (1 tsp mixed with the dry.) The only treats she ever gets are Honey Nut Cheerios, which I know to be safe. However, yesterday at a coffee shop a friend gave her a dog biscuit that he broke up into small pieces. She did eat a few. I don't know the brand. Could this possibly be the cause? Also, she had a long run in the garden yesterday, so maybe she ate bird/rabbit poop???? Her stomach is normal, poops are normal shape, not loose. I am going out of my mind with worry . PLEASE HELP. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. I am sitting her waiting for the Vet to call and I don't know what else to do. Lauren |
There are probably 10 or 20 different things it could be. I hope it's nothing serious.:( When is the last time she had eaten before this episode? |
Your feeding very good foods so its not the food. The dog biscuit or if she ate rabbit poo could be upseting her stomach. I would feed her chicken and rice tonight and keep an eye on her. If the vomiting continues or she becomes listless then she needs to be seen by the et. Mine have on occasion had off days where they vomitted too |

Sounds like she has a tummy ache. Tiki has done this many times in the past, all was ok. Just like humans, they get little tummy problems now and again. No worries Lauren, I'm sure she will be fine... I would also suggest chicken and rice as it is easy on the tummy. Big hugs!!!! |
Lauren, I hope you get news soon! I have just come on and am sorry to hear Mango is sick. I will be saying a prayer for her. Vas byt!!! I am presuming you have been very busy with Mom as I havn't seen you much lately. Oh I do hope your next post is a good one. I'll check in just now. Lots of hugs for you and Mango. :ghug: :ghug: |

Do you think chicken and rice is better than the low-residue dog foods a Vet usually suggests - I think the name is "Canine a/d" or something similar; my Spanky has had it before when sick with tummy problems. I am just so worried. Mango is a year old and has never been sick. Please tell me I am worrying for nothing.:(:(:( Lauren |
So, she's vomited how many times? It could just be something that she ate... Though the shaking is a bit concerning. I wish I had some better advise than to wait for the Vet to call... Im sorry :( |
The prescription foods are good also. I have never been able to get my yorkies to eat it though. My Vet always prescribes the prescription foods too and I told him they wouldnt eat it could I fix them chicken and rice and he said that would be fine |

I'm so sorry. It could have been the biscuits she ate.. is there any way you can find out what brand they were? I hope she feels better! |

Yes, the past few days I've been around less here 'cause of Mom's visit. I was supposed to take her out for the day, but I am waiting here for the Vet's call, and when I bring her home, there is absolutely NO way I will let her out of my sight. Ek wil huil:(, Lauren |
I hope Mango is better soon. It is probably just an upset stomach, but it is best to have her checked, as you did. Boiled chicken and rice is definitely supposed to be good for them. Please let us know when you hear something. I will keep her in my thoughts! (hugs) |

Let's wait and see what the Vet says, and then you will have a better idea....... I boil my chicken, and just use minute white rice. I have no idea if the other food is better, sorry....... I know exactly how you feel about little Mango, I could see the love in your face.......:) |

It is entirely possible that her stomach was empty this morning and that is why she got sick. |

Do you think there is a possibility of her catching something from a park, like the one we were in that Sunday? Lauren |
Awww Lauren, :( I'm so sorry to hear that Mango has an upset tummy. Chloe has had the same thing before. They'll probably want a stool sample at the vet, and you might get an antibiotic and an antiparasitic. From what you describe, it sounds like the typical reaction when they get a little bug, and doesn't sound serious, so try not to worry too much.:) My vet has suggested we give Chloe pepto when that happens, so we give her 0.8ml pepto. But if this is the first time you've seen this, best to take her to the vet and let them run the tests. Keep us posted. |

Oh Lauren! I just searched out your thread when I saw you mentioned Mango being sick on Ronda's thread, and I'm so sorry to hear Mango is feeling down. Like everyone else has said, I do think it's probably nothing, but it's probably good you took her to the vet just in case. I know she is your life (although I won't let Granny Spanky hear that  ). Sukoshi had the same thing happen one morning (3 or 4 episodes in a matter of minutes), so like you, I rushed her to the vet. After blood work and many tests, it turns out it was nothing...just a little stomach bug, and she was fine later that evening. I know it's hard not to worry since you're dreaming up every worst case scenario possible (as I would be), but I really do think it's probably just a little bug. Try not to worry. And keep us posted if you get any news. |
I just brought Mango home as she was behaving in a very distressed manner at the Vet. I spoke to the technician about her blood test results, because the Vet had not yet returned from lunch. Her Blood Glucose level: 130 60 to 110 are within normal limits, so hers is high. Is it possible that the 5 or 6 Cheerios a day could cause this?? I think not, but want to be sure. Otherwise, she just eats the Evangers ALS kibble, mixed with the one teaspoon of Merrick's Grammy Pot Pie. Tests on Pancreas/AMY: 1501 200 to 1200 are within normal limits, hers are high. Does anyone think these two results are related? Pancreatitis can cause these elevated levels, but what caused this in the first place?? I have no further information, but am getting quite scared at these results.:(:(:( Does ANYONE know anything you could tell me????? Please help! Lauren |
That does sound like pancreatitis.:( |

Lauren Edit: Did Sukoshi have any elevated blood levels when she was sick? |

I asked the Vet about that park - he knows it well. He says he has no patients that have become ill that have visited there. Like you, I did think of that, especially after the warning you posted a few weeks back after those terrible winds. Just waiting now for him to return and call me. Lauren |
Oh sheet Lauren! I understand your concern. I don't know anything about those results, I hope someone who does will answer you soon. Hang in there my friend, praying for baby Mango. Will check insoon. Hugs, |
