| Knee Problems Roufianna jumped from the helm seat of our boat to the slippery fiberglass floor and immediately began favoring her left hind leg. The floor is a bit slippery and very hard. When the limping did not abate after two days we brought her to the vet. She would walk ok most of the time but hold the leg up occassionally. Our vet, after moving her knee cap around a bit, said she has "trick" knees. And that it is quite common in the smaller breeds. Our baby is 6.8 lbs. and in otherwise great shape. He felt that we shouldn't breed her as we had planned to when she turned two yrs. of age not to perpetuate the problem. After less then a week on anti -inflammatory meds. she is her old self again (thank God). Question??? How big a problem is this? I requested a more standard rather then a mini from the breeder hoping to avoid some problems... alas... Any input greatly appreciated. Stephen |

| Patella Luxation This is a condition called Patella Luxation. Patella Luxation, also known as slipping kneecaps, slipping stifle, is a relatively common condition in the Yorkshire Terrier and often results in intermittent lifting of one or both hind legs when walking or running. It may be recessively inherited and therefore, afflicted animals should not be bred. Corrective surgery is usually very successful. |

| Lacy has luxating patellas. I'm hoping she'll never need surgery. Right now they don't seem to be bothering her. The right one pops out pretty much everytime she bends her knee..the left one isn't as bad. It's important to keep them at a healthy weight - the more weight on those knees, the higher risk of problems. Luxating patella is genetic in most cases and shouldn't be passed on. It can be a VERY expensive problem to fix surgically

| Thank you both for the feedback. I have only observed my baby limping for a couple of days twice in the last 6 months. Both episodes were brought on by her jumping from the helm seat (quite high) of the boat. I will have to work on keeping her from doing that but she thinks she's a Gazelle. The vet said surgery as a last resort. |
