| I went to Care A Lot and brushed my arms with all of the slicker brushes. I finally found one that was a mini size and the softest one that they had. It still does not feel good on my arm...so I use it very gently on my girls. But they do not yelp witht his one like they did on the others. |

| I think I've read that slicker brushes are more for dogs that have an undercoat - which Yorkies do not have. I tried a slicker when Tatum was a baby but was not getting to the roots and ended up with a tangled mess. Ever since I've used a metal comb on her wet hair and a regular brush on her dry hair. Not sure what kind of brush it's officially called but it has little rubber balls on the tip of each bristle thingy.

| When I took Conner to Petco they recommended a slicker brush because his coat was cottony. I bought one that he did not like - it was quite large. I found a softer, smaller slicker brush that got down to the roots. I just use it on a dry coat. I use a regular brush on his wet coat.

that is how i would describe romeo's coat. it is so very thick and soft. the slicker got to the roots but he just did not like it. i am going to look into some type of comb, too because if i do not it gets matted and that is when the fun begins!!

| I use a slicker brush on all of my dogs. I do their hair in sections and start at the end and work up to the root. I always hold the hair too by the skin if there is a knot - the same way you would do if you had a knot in your hair. It works great for me.

| I have every brush imaginable for Bella...I never know what is the "right" one to use. And nothing seems to phase her; she sleeps while I brush. Thanks for posting this topic...I am interested to see what is the right brush too

| I comb then first and then use a slicker for a finishing touch...I do not use a slicker for mats |

| well i bought a pin brush and it works sooooo much better! he still does not like it but he doesn't act nearly as bad as he did with the slicker! and the best part is - i paid only $1 for it!! i think he still had visions of the horror with the slicker so it will take him a few brushings but he should get used to it. i think at that price i am going to go back and purchase a couple to have around. It's a Yorkie Thing Donating Member | I also use a pin brush, but remember what ever brush you use to brush while the hair is wet. I was told that brushing dry hair can break it off, instead of detangling it. Any comments ... is that true?

| I always spritz a little CC Ice on Ice on Tatum before brushing. I've heard also that it's really not good to brush dry.

| I use a slicker brush and a metal comb on Zada and Azrael. The slicker gets any matts out without cutting them out. I don't brush to the skin with it. I hold the hair in one hand and then brush the hair across my hand. I then comb to see if there are any more tangles. Be careful with pin brushes. If the round tips are put on seperate from the pen, then it can pull, break and damage the hair. The hair catches at the base of the ball. |
