I think I've read that slicker brushes are more for dogs that have an undercoat - which Yorkies do not have. I tried a slicker when Tatum was a baby but was not getting to the roots and ended up with a tangled mess. Ever since I've used a metal comb on her wet hair and a regular brush on her dry hair. Not sure what kind of brush it's officially called but it has little rubber balls on the tip of each bristle thingy.
