| mats and shaving I just got back from the groomers. She said Mickey has so many mats that he needs to be shaved! I feel terrible--like a bad mom! Mickey's hair is thin, but it mats really easily. I give him a bath once a week and brush him every night. I just detangler and Cowboy Magic. I don't know what else to do! I hate the look of a shaved dog; plus it is COLD outside. Right now it is 4 degrees below zero! I came home without getting him groomed at all. Do you have any advice for me? |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | If he mats that easily then I would suggest that you keep him short in a puppy cut. Also what brush are you using. My lulu mats very easy with her cottony coat and I use one of those wirepin brushes on her after her bath so I can get her straightened out. Good luck.

| I use a comb on mine. It gets all the way down to the skin, so you know you are getting any knots out. The first time I took Cooper to a groomer, she told me he had mats, which I didn't understand, as I too brushed him every day. She suggested the comb and it's worked out perfectly. Cooper;s hair mats easily, but I find the Cowboy Magic helps keep the mats away too. Good luck!! Maybe just work on him a little every day until you get the mats out.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Find another groomer and explain you want as musg coat saved as possible and are willing to pay to get it done. When Cali was spayed I kept a onsie on her and didn;t comb her for over a week. Needless to say she was a mess. I called this groomer who owned Yorkies and showed them and told her I would pay whatever she charged to get the matts out without too much stress to Cali. She did a great job and charged me 60.00. Today I took her and Maya to my regular groomer and Cali was matted despite daily sometimes 2 times a day grooming due to her scratching problem and I jusy got her back and she looks beautiful and matt free. This groomer only charges me 22.00 but I give her a nice tip.

| I start out with a brush, and when I'm through with that, I comb Venus, all the way down to the skin. For mats I find, I put a pea size dab of cowboy magic on her. Mats come right out. |

| I have found that cowboy magic doesnt work if the matts are very bad. Jewels coat is very matted and I bought a dematting comb which hasnt gotten here yet. It has blades on the comb that are supposed to cut through the matts. This is my last resort before getting her shaved down

| Baci is AWEFUL with matts. I just went to the groomer and felt the same way myself. Am I a bad mommy for this? He looks so much cuter with hair but he had to be shaved down, it was hurrendous. It winter, It gave me an excuse to by a cute blue argly sweater for him, and now we start from scratch. I am ordering cowboy magic right now.. He is a lil embarassed, but not to much. He just is worried everyone is going to gasp when he is posing for his gift exchange pics..

| For any matts, just take your fingers and kind of pull them apart then take a slicker brush, starting at the very ends of the hair and working back toward the root. Don't let them get so bad that they can't be brushed out. They do need to be brushed and combed daily, and use a good cream rinse made for dogs of course, and hot oil treatments. Make sure their hair and skin doesn't dry out by feeding omega 3 and 6 fatty acids along with a very good diet. Home made is the best. |
