| need some help on detangler and brush/comb! okay, this is the deal. my girl Dolly has pretty nice silky hair, but lately, she's been getting quite a few mats. I try really hard to brush her on a daily basis, but sometimes, it's not quite possible. currently Im using ice on ice as a detangler, while it works, it still seems like that I've been pulling off lots of hair while brushing/combing. I've heard lots of good things about cowboy magic and thinking about getting one. but I want to know is that preventative or it actually helps with detangling? also, I think Im not using the brush/comb correctly, could someone tell me, what are all the brushes, and combs needed for a yorkie, and what's the order/routine for using them? thanks so much Last edited by SRD; 01-11-2007 at 12:08 PM. |

| here is a couple pictures of my girl dolly, she has thick hair, as nice as she might look in the picture, there's been problems lately, and it's taking lots of time. Im thinking about cutting her into a short hair style. 010907 010 mod.JPG 011007 001 mod.JPG |

| Cowboy magic is good but if the matts are really bad it wont take them out. The best way I have found to keep the matts from coming is to comb it everyday. I have been brushing and My girls hair still matted. I am going to get it cut short and start over unless the groomer can get the matts out

| here is my 2 cents about cowboy magic detangler...I bought a bottle yesterday and used it on Dixie. She was so matted from her shirt being on too long <my fault>..anyway i put some on her and let it on for 30 minutes then i brushed her...it went easier but not totally gone..i put a little more on where the brush was sticking in matts, and worked it in her hair with my fingers, left that on awhile...then brushed her starting at the ends and working my way to her body....mats were all out, then i bathed her...today i brushed her and the brush still goes right through easily , actually she looked pretty good after waking up (before i brushed her) I really like cm

| combing throughly every day, and use a good conditioner will help drastically. We use cc brush which is fantastic. Our favorite conditioner is a SheaPet line conditioner. It's the best I've used, not oily and it keeps Zoe free of mats for days! It's a bit price but well worth it to me and it comes in a fairly large bottle. I like cowboy magic too, but slighly oily if you apply too much. Your Dolly is precious, I just want to hug her! |

| My Mylan has very silky fur compared to my other babies and it tends to matt even when I brush it every day. Someone told me about Bio Silk shampoo (for humans) and the Bio Silk conditioner. (I think it's the Bio Silk Therma Silk kind.) Anyway... I started using it on Mylan and I can actually miss a day of brushing and it's still matt free! When any of them do get matts, I use a Matt Breaker comb from Petsmart. It's a comb with 6 curved razor blades that comb through the matt without cutting the fur. It's the best think I've ever used. Petsmart's groomers use the disposable one. I use the one that you change the blades out periodically. It runs about $20.00, but it's work every penny. You can see it on Petsmart's website. Just search for Matt Breaker. Hope this helps! Your baby is gorgeous! Last edited by bdbmamaw; 01-25-2007 at 10:07 AM. |

| I started using the cowboy magic detangler and I also use ice on ice when I comb her. I use a flea comb instead of a brush. She doesn't ever have mats anymore and the comb goes right through without any tangles. I can even miss a day combing and it still all good. I only use a dime size amt of cowboy magic and I don't put it on her head because it makes her look oily. |

| detangler I too, have one who matts easily with that cotton coat. That and her playing with the Min Pin pup..the Min Pin thinks it's cute to grab a mouthful of hair. NOT. Still working on manners with him as he's only 4 months old. I have heard there is a product that is sold for horse manes that really helps. I've tried Miracle Groom...doesn't work well. I know where I can horse grooming supplies here..at the local Farm King...so am thinking a store that carries grooming products for horses. I'll let you know how that works when I get it this weekend. And yes, my brother had a Yorkie in Ariz. and he always had her clipped into a shorter style...to keep her cooler. sadielyn |

| Her coat is beautiful! My yorkie mats easily too & plays roughly with the other dogs. I use "Show Sheen" made by Absorbine (hair polish & detangler) made for horses. I spray some of that on the mats first. Smells so good! And then I start at the ends of her coat with a fairly stiff slicker brush. When that is done, then I can brush her and comb her smoothly or bathe her. Usually, it's a bath since she is such a non-lady. I did have her coat cut fairly short to prevent this--she looked like a little wire-haired terrier then. lolol Thus is her pic in the profile. Since I've discovered this new way, her hair is growing out and she is looking much more like a Yorkie. Hugs...Sadielyn |
