Which brand of Argon oil do the two of you like? I have not tried it yet, but I remember discussion here that some are better than others.

I will have to look at Fur Butter too.

We buy ours from an etsy shop (erg...can't think of the name right now) that is 100% Argan oil imported from morroco, I get organic rose water from them too. The issue of quality I beleive is the percentage of actual Argan oil in the product and what fillers (or lack there of) are present in the product. When I was searching I was surprised to find a lot of the big name products didn't have a very high percentage of Argan and were often very spendy. I will have to check my purchase history for size/price/brand name info...

Poor Teddy was so dry again today. I greased him up with coconut oil and he has been happy ever since. Not pretty, but he is comfortable.
Thanks
Our beautiful little dogs seem to enjoy looking scruffy. Lola likes to lick the oil off her hair.

Thanks, it sounds good but I can't find an ingredient list.

Most argon oils are mostly fillers, like silicone and mineral oil.
I think any shea butter product would work about the same as fur butter without the yucky rosemary and peppermint smell.

Thank you for mentioning the scent of the Fur Butter. Definitely out for us. Teddy would be rubbing his nose like crazy!

I was getting ready to open a thread about this very subject. Glad I came across this one instead.

I am in the process of letting Ruby's hair grow out, she's normally in a modified schnauzer cut but I have decided to let it go long. She's a cotton coat and ever since this summer I've been using dawn dish soap to battle fleas and now her hair is so very DRY. I am in need of something I can use in between bathes that wont get too greasy, gunky or have a bad smell when it dries. I want her hair to flow in the wind and look healthy. It also has to be something that both myself and my DH can handle when it comes to smells. We have Very Sensitive sinuses that just the slightest thing will give us sinus headaches. So smell is a huge factor. Scentless food scent something with no perfume would be the best option for our household.

Thanks, that's one I was thinking of trying.

It's nice to see someone else with the same issue, people frequently think it's ridiculous.
I'm still looking for something for between baths, but the coconut oil treatment and ion conditioner used in the bath and mixed with water to make a spray are helping.
Be warned, if you use coconut oil it is strong smelling, but it doesn't bother me. I'm usually ok with food smells. The ion conditioner I use doesn't have much of a scent.

I don't understand why they make dog products so strong smelling, I've never had a stinky dog. They may smell a little when they're really hot, but it's not a bad smell.
I used to have to rebath my poodle when she got back from the groomers, she'd smell like they dumped a bottle of nasty powdery floral perfume on her.

OK folks-I know I'm mixing species--but, Cowboy Magic Detangler & Shine. They have a whole line. I like the gel detangler-a dime size drop on my hand-rub together-& all over the Yorkie. Can be used in between baths. They have a spray. I have been grooming horses for 30 yrs & this is the most AMAZING stuff i've EVER seen. can't use it on them, cause it would be too expensive, but 12oz lasts 4ever for Lilly.

As long as it smells like coconut it should be oK . I'll give it a try and if it works I can save a lot of money. I can get coconut oil in bulk at Sam's Club.

I have been using horse tail and main shampoo and conditioner for over ten years. The conditioner work ok but not great. I think I will see if the detangler is available at TSC.

Between the coconut oil and the cowboy magic one should work. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will. I will keep you all posted on what I find out.

Your not the only one! I found Show Sheen at tractor supply and its for horses, detangling spray for daily grooming on dry coat. It's great and UN scented!
I don't like heavy scents on dogs . Dogs noses are sensitive to that perfume stuff. Is the spray and gel the same thing? And where do you get it?

My nose cannot tolerate heavily scented products either. Chris Christensen Day to Day -- worked great -- but my doggies shut down and acted depressed until I washed them with something else. I tried it on them separately, Max first and Teddy 6 months later, and they had the same reaction.

Strangely, the scent of pure coconut oil doesn't bother me or the dogs.

FIRST OF ALL--I'm new, so don't hate. Not being rude with anyone. This is just something I know about--I mean I REALLY know about--at least try it--then call me a DODO bird on the thread for everyone to read: The "Cowboy Magic DODO bird"

Mane & Tail is terrible compared to Cowboy Magic; it will create a build up on the hair. Not even in the same class. I'm telling you, you'll never use anything again. Same thing about Show Sheen--it seems to work great. But, it creates a laquer on the hair & will cause it to break. In getting horses "show ready" both of these are cheap & look great! Who's to know--right? But, are viewed as shortcuts that end up hurting the hair.

Don't worry, food choices are far more controversial than grooming products. A bunch of long time members swear by Cowboy Magic. I have not tried it yet.
