Hygiene area clipping

I am wondering how best to groom/maintain my girl Lilah's high maintenance hygiene areas (anal/vaginal area and nipple/lower belly area) within the perimeters and expectations of a proper show coat. We are not exactly a show dog we are kind if too tiny and fumbly and first timery but we are practicing handling and management techniques cause one day mama wants to show I have downloaded the PDF under the grooming sticky and I do have books and of course we have managed our hygiene maintenance thus far but I want to know what I can and should trim where and how while growing out the show coat from the mouths of experience if you wouldn't mind sharing. I have already gotten some great references that have really helped us with various aspects of our endeavor thus far and they are greatly appreciated. We are always growing and learning

I use a rechargeable Wahl Arco clipper to do the sanitary trims (poopie hole & wee wee areas). Also the under paw pads, underbelly & inner thighs.

I have this one but in Pink, it's very quiet. It comes w/xtra rechargeable batteries & detachable combs. Linked this site bc it was the best price I found on google.

Thanks! We have an oster I used to do a puppy clip before we devoted ourselves to growing out the show coat- I hadn't thought of using it for pad trims! I love that yours is cordless and pink your post references finite details that I am not Clear on regarding the show coat- am I allowed to clip the underbelly/unseen areas? What about trimming under the tail? How close/far do I get to trim?

Yes, you can trim the lower underbelly & inner thigh areas. Along w/arm pits, these are considered high rubbing areas & they tend to tangle. The hairs there are very fine & sensitive to work out, so it's best to just trim them. It's kinda tricky to shave the arm pits, so for that I use a blunt nosed scissor.

When you say under tail, do you mean the butt area? I only trim the hair that's growing out of their poopie hole bc if that's not trimmed, poopie can get stuck on there. I do not shave the bum area & the area under the poopie hole (the runway). If you shave this area, you'll end up w/ baboon butt!

You'll want to use a #10 blade for the sanitary areas.

Yay! Thank you for clarifying! Yes those little thigh/under hairs sure do get tangly and it didn't seem as though they would effect the overall goal of growing out the long coat. No, baboon butt would not be the goal thank you again!

When Mimi was in full length coat, I shaved the whole underside up to her chest to help keep her cooler in the summer. We couldn't tell she was nekkid down there bc her hair covered it. I also tied the sides like a curtain when it got really hot.

I was just reading this because I am needing to trim Mandie's girlie areas better and when I got to the post about "the runway" and the "baboon butt", I lost it.
