| Help! We rescued two severely neglected yorkies. They were dumped in a ditch. We love them and they are our babies. We have had them about 5 months. Grooming them has been a process. They were so matted and horrible when we got them that we had to shave them down. I just didn't have the heart to take them somewhere, because they were so scared and malnourished. We've done it all ourselves with the help of friends who are groomers. Now bathing them and grooming them has turned into a task that takes hours weekly. They still won't let me trim their nails. (Thankfully a friend was able to,or the vet does but they have to put the dogs under to do so. ) Is there anything I could possibly give them once a week, when I bathe/groom them to calm them down? They are the sweetest little things (Ricky is 3lbs Lucy is 5lbs.) and it's not that they are aggressive at all. They just get so scared and whine and pant, and shake. They just freak out in general. Of course after their baths they sleep for a day! Any advice would be SOOOOO helpful! |

| Have you taken them to a vet in the 5last months? A vet can do the nails and its maintanxe from there. Shaving and starting over is probavly best. Bagging some pooh from each of them for a $10reason fecal sample from the vet is imperative with their obvious preciius care they could hace paracites like worms or ear mites. Blood samples should also ve taken heart eorms ans ither infections can be treated better if prevented or cauggt early. Best advice I have is immediate vet visit and to do a complete screening and vet grooming. My dog was terrified of water he cant be bathed so we got a shiwer nosel that has the super long sprayer we put it on low pressure to start. He can be blasted now but the water pressure even scared him. Make sure everything is gentle, my pup mill rescue was terrified at the sight of a brush, he litteral peeds ran and hid snarlibg in a corner and lost bowel control... Slow careful gentle patience lots of positive rewarding.

| This sounds like a plan to me, for these two also...especially if they have to be "put under" to trim their nails!...operative phrase is "until behavior patterns can be established"....hopefully, you can help these two work thru their issues.....have they been neutered and spayed yet? Microchipped? You have had them 5 months...how old are they? How in the world someone throw 2 babies in a ditch???? Fortunately, you found them and are trying to do what is best for them! They will reward you one day! |

| Thank you for the suggestions! We have been to the vet, and they were given a clean bill of health. We believe they got out of a puppy mill. They were found in the ditch a few miles from where a puppy mill was uncovered later that month. They are so precious,I cried for days after we got them. Heartbroken that someone could be so horrible to two precious pups. Lucy's coat is doing much better,Ricky is a different story. He mat's easily, if anyone has suggestions on what we can do to prevent it that would be helpful. We brush them daily, but he can get them so quickly. Thanks again for the suggestions. |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Welcome to YT!! Glad you rescued these pups, what a horrible beginning. Ricky sounds like he may have a cotton coat. I use minksheen shampoo (til i finish the bottle) and Bio-groom products. Many here rave about Yorkie splash and shine...I have yet to try it, but i DO plan to try and see what its like for my two. How old are your babies? Love the names....
