| Tub full of hair Buster and Maggie get a bath every week. They get brushed, if not every day, then every other day. Last night when I bathed Maggie, I noticed the tub was full of hair. She has always shed hair when she is bathed but there was a lot last night. Nothing in the way of food or treats have changed. She does have a lot of hair, she doesn't mat. Her hair is very silky and I guess curly at times. There isn't any hair in the brush after she gets brushed. Is this normal?

| It's odd that no hair comes off when brushing, yet it comes off when bathing. Some hair loss is normal, like a human. I pick up hair from my boys when I clean the floors. Their hair breaks off when they wrestle/play or when they pick up dried grass and things outside. I would look at Maggie's skin closely. Does she scratch at all? Is her hair drier lately? Any weight gain or changes in activity level? If everything looks normal and she isn't exhibiting any out of the ordinary behavior, I would wait to mention it to your vet at your next visit. If she continues to lose a lot of hair, I would consider checking in with your vet sooner. Hair loss can be connected with thyroid functions (metabolism/hormones).

| After I posted, I noticed that she is shedding more than I thought. Where she sleeps at night has quite a bit of hair. It's short hair on a dark comforter and it wasn't that easy to see at first. She doesn't scratch very much. I don't know a lot about thyroid issues but if she does have a thyroid issue, is this something that would cause her to be tired? For the most part, she is active, but when we walk, it seems we don't get very far before she is tired and wants to be carried. It's a noticeable difference between her and Buster.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Yes as Maximo suggested. Also I would have her heart checked out thoroughly. You haven't mentioned her age. But a healthy dog that gets regular exercise should not need to be picked up. How-ever it also could be a habit that you have inadvertently taught her. When Razzle was still a puppy, about 9mths old I think, we went on a 3.5 hour hike with him and our two big dogs. we also had a picnic lunch stop, and a 3/4 hour swim time in the lake. He walked the whole way. But we had built up to this timing over the previous six weeks. Even still, when we got back to the car, for the first time ever, he flopped down on the ground and waited until we got the car unlocked, and doors open. By the time we got back to our cottage, he went from a dead sleep, to up and at em again!.
