| Long haired yorkies+winter time+ warm clothes=... MATS!!!:thumbdo wn Plus onesies for spay protection, i feel like i'm battling a poodle to get a blowout! Uni is good at getting brushed out, but geez! Jammies and long haired yorkies do not mix!

| Conditioner! Spray on, leave in conditioner. Every time you brush. May not eliminate the problem, but should make brushing out easier.

| oh yes, I've been using lots of conditioning spray and my new isinus brush which works wonders, but still, a longish coat in onesies for 24 hours? it's gonna get matted. I unmatted her for about 2 hours. she was ok with it. now it's FLOOOOOWING LOOOOONG HAAAAAIR!!! (shrek reference).

| The only other thing I can come up with, which I have had to do with two of mine, is brushing them out more often. With Tinkerbell, she had short hair when I first got her and it was a total mess. Seemed like no matter what i did, it matted very easily. I decided to wait and let it grow out anyway, but if I miss any mats they have to be cut out because she is super sensitive and doesn't tolerate long grooming sessions. It has gotten better being longer though, so I guess I'll have one more in full coat...

| Maddies hair is about 2 inches from the floor now, ive noticed if i brush her b4 i put the clothes on it helps, but like you if i leave them on for a long period i notice she a fuzzbutt. i try to take her clothes off a couple times aday and brush--seemes to help. living here in nebraska shes always cold in the winter--so clothes are a must for her.

Well just a suggestion; but you could try braiding her hair, tying with scrunchie before putting on the coat. It might be less time in the long run.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | My groomer hates me. Jillie is now going every 4-5 weeks, and I get chewed out every time for matting. She suggested I don't use a harness, and I told her that's impossible. But I compromised and make sure I take off harness and coat as soon as walk's over. I also brush her at least once a day (a big improvement for me), preferably right after the walk. I never thought of brushing her before the coat goes on. I'll try that. I also bought a detangler brush that I run through the matts before they get bad.

| Is it possible to use curlers on Yorkies? I had a friend with an Afghan she showed and the dog was in curlers a lot. She'd use the ones where hair would stick to the curler and she would also make her own from strips of cloth, where you curl the hair up and tie it. Worked great, the Afghan wore a lot of sweaters. |

I think brushing out before the clothes is a good idea. Never really thought about that.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Satin or silk lined pj's or a wrapping jacket might help with fewer mats, but you're right any clothing left on a yorkie with long hair will tend to result in mats.

| I Have to put clothing on my boys in the winter here if they are going out, it is just so cold. Jesse hair is fairly long now and was getting so tangled with the sweaters and coats. I now either braid or ponytail sections like was suggested, and it helps quite a bit.

Rosie has longer hair and I always use a conditioner. I also use a spray conditioner so she is getting a double dose. I use Yorkie Splash and Shine and then Yorkie Sheen for the spray in.
