| Groomers: yes, no, when, and where in LV? So during my time here I have read both positive and negatice feedback on groomers. I came apon a horrible story just yesterday about someone's baby being burned horribly by some dryer! I have no idea what to do. More than that though, I have no idea when to do lol! My Sasha is six months old and looking a little scraggly. She is my first yorkie and I only got her a few days ago, and I have so many questions about grooming! First, at what age should they have their first grooming? Second, I have no idea what kind of coat she has, or how many different coats there are. Her hair is very thin and fine, so more silky than fluffy I suppose? It curls a little at the ends. Please take a look at my albums and you can see what I'm talking about. Will her coat stay like this, or does it change all during the first year? Third, what kind of different cuts are there? I don't want to grow her hair too long, as it gets super hot here in Las Vegas in the summer, but I think I would like her face to stay longer than her body, if that makes sense! Does anyone have a link or something where I can see different yorkie cuts? Fourth, does anyone know of an excellent groomer here in LV or where I could look for one (a site that has reviews?)? I'm so torn over this because I would just rather groom her myself, but I have no idea how to, and I don't trust anyone right now with all of these horror stories out there! Sorry this is so long winded but I need help!

| HI! I"m in Vegas too. The couple of times I've splurged and taken Soph to a groomer we went to the one at Petsmart Rainbow & Lake Mead. They did a good job with her. I asked them to just trim the body a little and not touch anything on her head or ears and that's exactly what they did. I was really pleased because I've heard and read about horror stories where owner asked for a little trim and came back to a shaved, naked Yorkie. 2nd time was just for a bath and blowout. I hear you about the heat, it can be brutal on the little ones so as soon as it starts getting up into the 80's and 90's Soph becomes a 100% indoor dog until the fall. I've seen lots of cute cuts where the body is really short but the head is left long so it can be put up. Also saw one that had a schnauzer cut that was absolutely adorable. As far as age, until she's had all the shots, especially bordatella and parvo, no reputable groomer will touch her, for the safety of both your baby and their other clients. At six months she she should be done with them so you should be ok I would think. Been too long since Soph was a pup so I can't remember for sure when all the shots are finished. |
