| Hair Bows for Amateurs: Help! As I've been browsing through the YT forums and albums, I have seen SO many adorable Yorkies wearing the most precious bows in their hair. It got me thinking...I have absolutely no ability when it comes to styling hair. The only reason I'm not ashamed to go out in public myself is because I have wonderful hair stylist who keeps me in a very easy-to-manage cut! So...I don't stand a snowball's chance in you-know-where of ever being able to get my dog's fur into a top knot. As Chloe is only four months old, she doesn't have enough fur for a knot right now anyway. In planning for the future (and to save my pocket book from wasted spending), what are my chances of getting a bow to stay in my Yorkie's fur without rubber bands and with minimal hassle? No dog should undergo such torture as to have my clumsy fingers operating on her 'do! After a very brief search on eBay, I found this woman's store: eBay Store - My Doggy Styles: CUSTOM MADE SIZED 1 W COLLAR, WORLDS GREATEST BOWS. She claims to have created the perfect clip that will stay in any dog's hair...is she full of it or should I break down and purchase one of her rather pricey bows? Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom!! -C

| I'd love to know what her "perfect" clip is that stays in any hair. I can tell you from personal experience that Des's small hair clips work well without hair bands - you just gather the hair and put the clip in. They are full of bling and IMHO look much better than these bows do. Check out her stuff at go.fetch (she is a member here).

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I found this site very helpful in explaining how to do a hair bow. Casual Way to Put Dog Bows In They use two bands and the second band locks the bow in place. It's really important to use grooming bands for the topknot, and even though bows come with bands you use those just to attach the bow, not to hold the hair in place, that way, the bow bands can be used over and over. Joey has really fine hair and bands work better than clips for him. Several of our members make gorgeous bows, at really great prices. Here's a link to members who have store sites, http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ore-sites.html. Here's a link to Ladymom's thread, and you can see some of the bows she makes. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...-new-bows.html

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Like you I am hair styling challenged, same hair style? for over 20 years!! It is easier than you think to get the bows in. In fact I left mine for the first time last month and had to teach my dtr how to do it while I was away. You can do it!!! I now have a bow addiction!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I will let you know. I plan on ordering one soon. The girl wrote me and said that she will be shipping orders out Sept 1 when she reopens her shop. She took the summer off to be with her kids but she said the bows can still be ordered now and she will ship them Sept 1.

| PLEASE be careful with clips. I've seen this happen too often where the skin was accidentally clipped in (this causes a bald spot). I usually use rubber bands with the clip. But that's just me. Have faith in yourself. YOU CAN DO IT! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I have a soft brush that I use on Joey's forehead, as soon as I do this he lies down. You can use a baby brush, or even a soft toothbrush; you are trying to get the hair from eye corner to eye corner. I use a rattail comb the separate this hair right in front of each ear, and place a band around that. Petsilk Topknot gel works great on the shorter forehead/nose hairs. I have many different sizes of bands, the smaller ones you only have to twist twice, and they hold the hair great, but the larger ones can have more give, and are easier to put on, (especially if your hands aren't that flexible), of course you have to twist them 3-4 times. Always cut the bands off with a scissors, to avoid breaking hair. I just stick the scissors under band, and pull it away from all hair and clip. If you don't pull away from hair, it's easy to cut hair, I did that once.
