| Teeth Brushing Im trying to get Spencer used to getting his teeth brushed. I had bought tooth paste and the finger brush, but once he got a taste of the toothpaste he wouldn't sit still and let me try it he just ran off lol. So I was wondering if I should quit I mean I dont want to be mean and make him sit there and let me do it , but is there an easier way for me to try, thanks for the help guys I apperciate it . hugs

| I am having the same problem with my new little rescue Lexie...can't wait for some suggestions--we have beef flavored toothpaste all over her muzzle now, as her mouth seems to be too small for the finger brush or a micro-sized brush I got... |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Best time to brush them is when they are being bathed. I bathe my pups every sunday and while they are in the sink during bath time they get their teeth brushed. You have to be persistent so they get used to it. Mine don't like it all that much but they are resigned to know that I will do it. I usually hold their mouth with one hand and use the brush with the other. Plus giving them a lot of hard chews also helps with their teeth. They will eventually get used to it...you just have to show them who is the boss there.

| Making them get their teeth brushed isn't being mean. After brushing just about everyday for over two year Ellie stiill hides when she sees me get it out. I lay her on her back on my lap most of the time and just make her deal with it. It's certainly better than more oral surgery...

| I brush Cookie and Izzy's teeth right before bath. Needless to say, they do not like it but they put up with it! For those of you who use the finger toothbrush and find that it is too big for your finger, I put a kleenex over my finger and than slide my finger into the toothbrush. It makes it fit snugger! I like the finger brush because I can make it go where I want and I know how much pressure I am applying! I also use the poultry flavor and they seem to like it Good luck!! Keep it up, it is for their own good!

| Mine much prefer the CET vanilla mint. I think it makes their breath smell better too.. There are also very good products that you add to their water to cut down on tarter and plaque. Virbac Animal Health - CET Toothpaste #816-230-Z

| My little Zena will be 8 months old on July 3rd. Time to start brushing her teeth. Do you think an electric tooth brush would work? I figure while she is biting it, the spinning brush head would do the job. I guess I'll find out this weekend. Now to find a toothpaste she will like. She loves catfood. If only there was one flavored like cat food! LOL! |
