| Trimming the hair on the ears... How would we go about trimming the hair on Baylee's ears so they will stand up? would we use scissors or a trimmer?

| sometimes they will let you trim without to much of a problem since you have never trimed them be very careful with the clippers & scissors because they can get cut very easy, you might need help holding her the first time Betty & Micah my love |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | You shave the ears 2/3 the way down...front and back with clippers. A moustache trimmer also works. Then holding the ear erect...at the top find the edge of his ear with your index finger and thumb....use scissors to trim off the excess.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | be very careful when trimming the ears with scissors. Always point the scissors towards the tips of the ears and use the tips of the scissors to cut. this will minimize the chance of cutting the dog. Its easiest to use a clipper and just run it over the inner and outer leather of the ear if you haven't done it before and if the dog is wiggly.

| I just use the clipper and do the top 1/3 of Missy's ears on the front and the back. I hold her ear flat on my fingers to support her ear as I do it. I've never had to trim the edges with scissors, the clipper does a good job on its own. I think that trimming 2/3 of the way down would be a bit too much and would make the Yorkies ears look bigger. Just my opinion

| Please remember NEVER run the clipper up the sides of the ears. This will chew up the ear. Only trim this part with scissors. |

| I use a little Peanut trimmer. I bought it at a beauty supply place. IT is great. I put it right up against my own skin and it does not cut so I think it is pretty safe. I trim down in a V (actually it's an up-side-down V) on both front and back of each ear -- maybe 1/3 to 1/2 way down. Then I also use the trimmer on the sides but I lay the hair out against my other hand and just put the trimmer straight down through the hair to my skin. This takes the hair away, prevents cutting the dog's skin and just makes it easier. It also gives a very nice straight cut. Now that I have said what I do -- I had better get to it! I still have not done my 5 puppies ears. They stand so straight and tall without a trim, they have let me be lazy! But they are more than ready or their first trim.
