I just use the clipper and do the top 1/3 of Missy's ears on the front and the back. I hold her ear flat on my fingers to support her ear as I do it. I've never had to trim the edges with scissors, the clipper does a good job on its own. I think that trimming 2/3 of the way down would be a bit too much and would make the Yorkies ears look bigger. Just my opinion
