| Human vs. Dog Clippers Hi. This isn't entirely about just yorkie grooming, but I figured this was still the best place to post. This is primarily targeted at those who are groomers! Epsilon's sister is a miniature schnauzer, so she has some coarse wire hair. I'm looking to purchase some new clippers because mine are absolutely terrible. My mom is a cosmetologist and can get a good deal on some human clippers. So, I was wondering if they would do the job, or if they would wear out a lot faster. I think if I was just grooming Epsilon, they would be fine since his hair is thinner than most humans... I just don't want my schnauzer's hair to destroy them in a couple of grooms. Thanks! |

| I am a hairdresser and I say get dog clippers for dogs. I loaned a very expensive ($500) pair of my hair clippers to a lady once thinking she was going to cut her husbands hair. To my horror when she brought them back they would not cut hair. I took them in to be repaired and they were ruined. Packed completely inside with poodle hair . It had gotten in so bad it had burnt the motor up and the blades were dulled beyond repair. So evidently there has to be a difference in the way the clippers are made for human and dogs. |

| I have a $60 pair of human clippers I got at Sally's that I have used on Loki like 4 or 5 times, but they don't give a smooth finish with the combs/guards like he gets at the groomer with "his" blade (whatever size blade she normally uses on him) He has a very soft coat so it's probably missing hair and I have to go over it 10 times to get it all. It's just not worth it I just trim his face and paws with scissors in between groomer visits and let her do the clipping. If you are wanting to do it yourself, buy the dog ones. You can get them from Pet Edge. You can buy different sized blades so that you don't have to use combs and you get a much cleaner finish.
