| ![]() Ok So some of you know I just got Essie Monday night. Here's where I need the advise. Everytime I brush her she attacks the comb. I am useing on of those metal straight tooth combs. I tryed useing a plastic one from my hubby's trimming kit but she does the same. He coat is starting to grow and I want to get her used to being brush before she gets matts in it. Can you please give me info and maybe pics of the BEST (IYO) grooming brush to use? Thanks.

Continue with the grooming...offer her treats when she's done. I'd brush her coat a little each day...she'll get used to having it done.

| ![]() Keep trying each day. You might direct there train of thought to the treat or by having a toy close by. But don't give up, do it daily and they will finally get use to it.

| ![]() I use my pin, matt brush. I have a few differently ones. I have one that is rounder on the ends, one that is straight. I brush daily around the same time for the pack around tv time and they leap in my lap...my problem is who goes first, but to get to that point... Anytime they hold still for their grooming sessions they are treated with cheese...so they know if they sit steal and let me do what I want, whether it be clipping nails or cleaning ears... If the move I say No and No treat. For some reason it works... I say Quit if the behavior is not what I want or NO...they all watch the other one, it is amazing how quickly they learn that my tools dont really hurt them.. So I am excited to be able to walk up take a paw at any given minute and clip... it takes a little time...but you must be persistant and say "NO" when she is trying to eat your tool. That is my opinion someone else may have some other tips...but these work like a charm for me... ![]()

| ![]() Thanks so much for all the advice! I was thinking the same thing about just being persistant........ She will drop the treat right out of her mouth just to nip at the brush. So i guess we'll kep trying. She will let me brush her back, its main;y the legs belly and head she hates! Maybe she has super sensetive skin?? This is almost to same comb I am useing.

| ![]() I agree with the others. I use a pin brush on the body and some on the head, then a comb for the face. It is always good to start with a part of the body that they like being rubbed (stomach). Also let them sniff the brush first and praise them and then praise them while brushing and not biting/squirming, etc. You also want to make sure you do it lightly at first until he warms up to it and then worry about tangles. If a mat is really bad, don't try to brush it out, just cut it if it is easier. I have bad memories of my sister hurting my head when I was little while she was doing my hair, so I am VERY gently when brushing/combing my "kids". ![]()
