I agree with the others. I use a pin brush on the body and some on the head, then a comb for the face. It is always good to start with a part of the body that they like being rubbed (stomach). Also let them sniff the brush first and praise them and then praise them while brushing and not biting/squirming, etc. You also want to make sure you do it lightly at first until he warms up to it and then worry about tangles. If a mat is really bad, don't try to brush it out, just cut it if it is easier.

I have bad memories of my sister hurting my head when I was little while she was doing my hair, so I am VERY gently when brushing/combing my "kids".
