| Looking for pics of long cuts So I'm the nervous Mom who's never cut her baby's hair. In this case, my Yorkie, Daisy, who will be 3 on Sunday. Her fur is all the way to the floor and I groom her myself, as far as very minor trimming. I have a grooming appointment for her on Friday and I'm looking for pics or suggestions on what to do. Specifically, hybrid cuts somewhere between the long show coat and a short cut. Daisy's fur is very thick and we're having too much trouble brushing underneath. Plus her beautiful face is just buried in all that fur. She's a big girl, 8 pounds, and a little overweight, just like her momma :-) I included a couple pics, saved as attachments. She's a little unbrushed this morning. Any ideas or suggestions? Or am I crazy and should just have it thinned out on the belly and underneath? Marla Thornton, CO Sampson & Daisy

| I don't have any pictures for you, but you could get the groomer to shave her belly that was it matts less.

| Thank you very much! Daisy is all sugar and spice. I'm having a hard time deciding whether to go short or just thin from the "undercarriage."

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali is my cottony thick coated girl who scratches all the time so she mats. I like the long coat so I take her to the groomer every 3 months or so and have her belly shaved, and her coat thinned out. It is much easier to care for.

| These are pictures of my shorty taken a few years ago. The picture on left he is in full coat and the one on the right he had just been to the groomers. The groomer cut the hair short on top and left the sides. |

| Thanks for the pics! On Cali, I especially like the way the groomer has cut shorter lengths around the head but left the top knot and headfall. I've been tipping the ears, but wasn't stilled enough to cut the hair around the head so the hair on the ears is several inches long. Cali's coat looks very similar to Daisy's. And on Shorty, I see that they trimmed the "skirt" up a bit. That would be nice, because right now Daisy is like a broom when we walk or a mop on the kitchen floor. I've been calling her "Roomba!" My friend said to send Daisy over to her house to clean up the dust bunnies behind the furniture :-) This is just what I was looking for. Cali and Shorty are adorable! I will print these out and take with me.

| Well, that didn't work! I'm so disappointed. First of all I was nervous about cutting Daisy's fur, which was all the way to the ground. The groomer did such a lousy job, I just don't even know what to say. The only saving grace is that she didn't cut much off, so I can either forget it and grow it out again or take her in for a shorter cut - to a different groomer. The groomer nodded acknowlegement when I told her what I wanted, then didn't do half of it. And the parts that she did cut, are choppy. Like there was no attempt made to make anything even. I asked for her to leave the feet long, flared, she tappered them. She didn't cut the skirt anywhere near as short as I showed her, so now Daisy just looks like a puff ball with bitty legs at the bottom. I asked her to trim the belly short, she didn't. The first photo is Daisy after, and the second photo is one of several that I took in to show. I know it's hard to see from the photos how choppy it is, but holding up the hair around the ears, face, and even the skirt is not level! Some pieces are shorter, some are longer. Clearly this person did not have a clue. I do not want to take Daisy back there and ask for it to be fixed. Who knows what I'll get. It was a referral from a friend. So I'm looking for another place to do a modified puppy cut I guess. Or just even it out myself and let it grow back out. Seriously, I could have done a better job myself.

| So that is the secret of cotton coats - to have them thinned out? Does your groomer just use a thinning shear? She is so pretty. I didn't think a cotton coat could ever look so nice. |
