looking for GOOD yorkie breeders in NY & NJ Hey everyone!, I'm a newbie here at YT (well not really. I've always read the forums but never registered until now.) Sadly I'm not a yorkie owner...YET! But I've always found this site helpful for my search for a yorkie baby. I live in NYC & its VERY hard finding good breeders here. Everyone is either a broker....or wants to charge me an arm, leg & soul for a yorkie. I was going to buy this yorkie from a breeder in California (Kory from Courtash yorkies) but my parents don't trust sending money over there. So I came here to ask you guys: Do you know any good yorkie breeders in my Tri-state area? (I need to know ASAP because Kory is holding the dog for me until I send the money tomorrow.) |
I would suggest checking YTCA.org for a reputable breeder. There are so many red flags on the website of the breeder you posted, I wouldn't walk but run the other way, IMO! Good luck with your search! |
Please do some more research. Check with YTCA and other breeders in your local area. Come on here and research the breeder reviews...etc...Make sure the parents are health tested or the puppies are ( bile acid, OFA, CERF) a little extra cost on a yorkie now will save you lots and lots of money later. A reputable breeder will charge around 1200 to 1500 for a pet yorkie depending on the area. Do not buy sight unseen and ship a baby...I would want to see the parents, the place, and the pup before buying. There are some listed on here in the for sale section that are near to you, maybe a 2-3 hour drive. Try them, try YTCA, and even with that research more. Just because they are YTCA members, or YT members here, check and double check. |
PS Do not jump in and buy just because she will only hold the pup for one day. You are buying the pup and the breeder too!! You should never feel rushed or pressured into a big decision like that. Just like buying a car...the dealer can only give you this price for today...sure:rolleyes:.... take your time. This baby will be with you for 10-15 years...more than most cars nowadays.. |
Have you known anyone who's gotten their yorkie from this site? |
Just went to the site and all I can say is OMG the prices!!! $9000.00 for a puppy:eek::eek::eek::eek: No I have not purchased from there nor would I. There are many red flags on this one starting with the "teacup" advertising, not to mention the unreal pricing. Please read on here about healthy pups. You could get a nice yorkie with champion parents, a breeder who will be there with you for the life of your baby, and will not charge you an arm, leg, and eye. |
Lol. No, did u get your yorkie from the YTCA website or know somebody who has? |
I don't know anything about the breeder in CA. However, I would recommend Mistibleu Yorkies in Hilton, NY that is near Rochester. They have a good breeding program and they also show dogs. Their website is yorkie puppys for sale, teacup yourkies for sales, quality breed Yorkie's for sale. |
I have in the past yes bought a pup on the YTCA site but not recently. There are many reputable breeders but just as many not so reputable. I am not sure what you were looking to spend, but on that site the prices were unreal and you could find a nice looking yorkie from a great breeder for way less than that. I know of breeders in Mass. that show and may have pups. Magic Genie on here shows and has pups I believe also. Just take your time, screen the breeders...questions to ask them. Parents health testing? Bile acid, OFA, CERF? References? From previous pup buyers and their vet? Health guarantee? For? Age when pup leaves...should be at least 12 weeks no sooner... AKC limited papers? Spay/neuter contract? Good luck in your search. Please feel free to check on a particular breeder on here, post and ask about them..... |
There's this thread that was started earlier, which this breeder is mentioned, you may want to take a look: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...vens-name.html And some people do not realize just how big New York is, but Rochester is like 7 hours away from NYC - not close at all. I got my first yorkie from a breeder in Queens. I don't think she's breeding anymore but you may want to take a look. Her name is Judy and her website was www.spoiledrottenyorkies.com. Although New York has everything you can imagine - yorkies (other than the ones you can get from a puppy store - which I would never) are very few. Good luck in your search. |

I got Mack from Holly Stellitano (Yellow gate farm and kennel) in Frenchtown nj. He was under $1000 (by a lot) and is such a great, well mannered baby. He is so smart and gave us no issues with housebreaking. He has given us so much love. He came with AKC papers. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. |
Update: I want to say thanks you for all the tips & leads you guys gave me! This is y I love this site, everyone here has given me such great advice. I researched & spoke with some of the breeders you guys recommended & they were great...they had exactly what I'm looking for but just at a higher price. :( But I'm still on the hunt for my (under $1,000) yorkie! P.s. do you think some of these breeders will negotiate their prices??? :-\ |

Some may have an older one needing placement for that amount. It just depends, most are that high because of the costs that are put into a breeding. And even the 1200-1500 range for a pet puppy does not cover those costs. I wish you luck on your search. There is a puppy out there matched for you, it is finding that baby that may take a while. Since you are just starting in college the timing may not be right. Puppies require alot of time and you may not have that much with going to school, studying, and working. Maybe an adult rescue may be a better choice. |

To the OP, you might want to try some of the rescues/shelters like others have suggested if you can't afford a puppy from a breeder. I would also suggest that you have someone available to be with your Yorkie when you are at school or work. I am lucky because my Mom watches Lulu when I am at work. I probably wouldn't be able to have Lulu otherwise. |

yea, ive thought about that.....and its funny that you say that because i prefer an older yorkie. i realized that i dont have the time that a PUPPY would need.:( & a few people around were suggesting i go to a rescue or a shelter....but i dont know many shelters that have yorkies...theyre mostly bigger dogs...but maybe thats just the ones in NYC  & i have to look up yorkie rescues in NJ....do you guys know of any in NJ?? |
Hello again try typing in google search 234puppies I believe there in your area. I was going to use them but they were too far. There prices are very low around 500 - 900 and they do not take ayment until you come and get the puppy or the puppy is delivered. If you don't see any new yorkies wait a few weeks they are pretty good about updating when a new litter has arrived. |
There are many rescues listed on here. I was looking at Yorkie Haven Rescue and they have a lot of babies looking for furever homes...The price is cheap and you could possibly drive there or fly?? Still may be cheaper than a pup and you would have rescued a baby in need... check under rescues/surrenders then look at rescues themselves that are listed. YHR... |
Try e-mailing breeders that are retiring one of there yorkies. I notice that retired yorkies can cost from $500-$1500. Just e-mail every reputable breeder in your area asking if they have a retired yorkie they might like to rehome or will be rehoming soon. Most of them come train :D |

To the OP, I am sorry to have hijacked your thread. I am not a breeder and don't pretend to have a breeder's knowledge of Yorkies. I just had a positve experience with this breeder that I thought you might want to check out. I see you have contacted a breeder in Albany and I wish you the best of luck. |
