| I need my fellow Yorkie talkers expert opinions!!! I told my friend I was looking for a yorkie breeder in the NY tristate area and she told me that she bought her yorkie from this man/breeder. Well she told me that the breeder met her in the lower east side, in the City, and brought her yorkie with him. He gave them a folder with all his paper work, all his shots, but kept the registration papers because they only gave him a deposit. They set up a payment plan of paying him every 2 weeks. He charged them $1,650. Here is his website: Home What do you lovely ladies thinks? Does this seem shady or good? my friend said her dog is so healthy and happy and she calls the breeder all the time with questions and that he is great. Any opinions on this? Thanks! |

| I'm no lady, but my opinion is it'a shady. Teacup is used on the website, & is a no, no. You should be able to visit the breeder & see the pup's parents. Not clear that this is an option. The website looks like a template. Where do all the many pups shown come from? The offsetting factor is your friends good experience.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I don't like that she wasn't able to go and meet with him and see how the parents were kept and the remainder of the litter mates. I live in NYC and never heard of these folks before. I would suggest you call him and grill him. I think in one of the threads somewhere there is a nice questionaire for possible breeders. Good luck with what you decide to do. As always the pups are adorable like most yorkie pups.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The only way we can stop puppy millers and abusive breeders is to visit the kennels in person. If a breeder won't allow kennel visits, it's a good sign they are a poor breeder. Run the other way. A good breeder will want to get to know the buyer before she sells her dogs to them.

| I agree with everyone else so far...one of the first thing I learned about getting a puppy is visiting the breeder to meet the parents. I actual just visited California and was walking on the Walk of Fame when I saw a man with a cute little puppy, I asked how old since I was missing my Duke, he said 2 months then proceeded to tell me that he's selling the puppy for $200, it's a golden chihuahua(?), his wife was also holding another dog....so sad, I can't believe that he was just selling his puppy on the street like that

| Teacup is an unacceptable designation for Yorkies, & its use is highly frowned upon on Yorkie Talk. It may be the "mark" of a poor breeder. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...uch-thing.html

Some breeder's use the word "teacup" to imply their yorkies are smaller than average, but often a breeder who uses this word just sells the puppies early so they look smaller. I would ask them what they meant, if they say that their yorkies don't get over 4 pounds, I would say they are probably lying or breeding tinies, and this is considered dangerous for many reasons. Most good breeders don't like to breed a female less than 5 pounds. Good breeders occasionally have a dog that is smaller than average and this can be do to many factors, hereditary, or health reasons. For example Liver Shunt puppies are often smaller. So most people suggest looking for a dog 4-7 pounds. If you want a dog under 4 pounds, it best to find the best breeder possible, and wait to she has a tiny, because she won't be breeding her little girls, and will need to find a home for them. I would also recommend reading more about the special needs of tinies because they do require more care.
