| Shipping from US to Canada ??? I'm going to place this in the general forum as well, to see if I can't get a quicker reply, but how difficult is it to ship a Yorkie puppy from say Georgia to BC, Canada? I need to know asap... I have a puppy on hold until tomorrow morning while I find out about shipping. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!! |

| I checked the Canada Customs website for you this is what they posted: Importation of Domestic Cats and Dogs Inspection Fees The information on this page is current as of 2007-9- 17. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fees are payable for inspection of cats and dogs being imported or returning to Canada from countries other than the United States. In certain cases, dogs and cats imported from the United States will require inspection for which inspection fees apply. Upon arrival at the first port of entry in Canada, dogs and/or cats and their accompanying paperwork will be inspected. The fee must be paid at the time of inspection. The current fees are: $30.00 + tax for the first animal in the shipment; and $5.00 + tax for each additional animal in the shipment. If the shipment does not meet Canada's import requirements (even if the animal is being imported from the United States), the animal will be ordered to undergo vaccination against rabies within two weeks of its arrival, and the following fees apply: $55.00 + tax for the first animal in the shipment; and $30.00 + tax for each additional animal. |

| Well I don't think I'll be buying or selling puppies to or from Canada any time soon.

| well buying a puppy from canada and getting it shipped to the states would be what the states charge, Have not done it so not sure there.. but I do know that there is no duty on pets going in to canada but then they charge that gst and pst... Yet a person could fly and pick up a puppy and it would not be anything...go figure... pooh's mum |

| 14% is not past but HST and only for NB, NS and PEI. All other provinces have a tax of around 6%. Here is the thing, right now the Canadian dollar is higher then the US dollar (cheaper for Canadians to shop in US)... Puppies must have a Certificate of Health that is dated within I believe 5 days?? Maybe more but not by much.

| well not in ontario Well Ontario you pay 14%...I know for a fact. Went with some one to pick up a dog ...saw what they paid...no duty on pets, but 14% on the price of the pet. In ontario it is pst and gst. We travel a lot...we were also in New Bruswick this summer. So maybe it differs from province to province. I am talking Ontario here. pooh's mum |

| sorry I do not know how to add to a post I will try to explain this as well as I can. Provinces in Canada, all have different provincial tax. All have a government tax that is added to the provincial tax. . The provincial tax in Ontario which is the pst, (provincial sales tax) then the gst is government or federal. combined in Ontario the tax adds up to 14%. I am not sure on all the other provinces..and I did say Canada and thanks to some one in New Brunswick I was reminded all provinces are different... But I was just trying to make some aware that is something the buyer/seller should think about. It is just being told no duty on pets, then to get charged the additional 14% again in Ontario can come as a shock... I hope this sounds better..and thanks N.B for adding that.. pooh's mum |

| Thank you to all that answered! Sadly the puppy in question sold only a few minutes before I got back to the lady. Regardless I am still interested in purchasing a puppy one day from the US. Yes, it seems it's quite easy to bring in pets from the US after all. I myself am from British Columbia, so only GST... & no PST for me either. Thanks again for everyones help, and maybe this thread will go on to help others as well |
