I love children, especially babies. However, I'll take the pet carrier anyday or a baby/toddler next to me - unless that baby/toddler is related to me!

I dont treat and think that dogs are better than humans in general. I mean of course I like certain dogs more than certain people. It depends, is the kid throwing tantrums threw out the whole flight? Is the dog barking nonstop?

I know if I had a child and someone made any type of remark like that about my kid, implying that a dog is higher than my child I would make sure that they couldnt make that comment or any other comment for a long time.

And some people have bigger dogs that they think of as children, but they have to check the dogs in and fly separate from them. I mean atleast be thankful that your able to bring your dog in the plane with you and he's not in the cargo area. 0

Those rules are ridiculous and make no sense. People tend to break rules if then don't make sense.

Or the could designate the last row as a pet section, or the front row where there is more room.

I believe I would go the sedative route.
I agree that it's dumb that the bag can't even be moved out from under the seat. Thats pointless. But on the other hand, I mean atleast the dogs are allowed on the planes. Everyones complaining because they can't move their pet carrier and take their dog out....but I have not read one post where someone is greatful that they can atleast bring their dog in the plane with them.

But Rae Rae, Jeze, I'd lay odds that you are a flight attendant. What's wrong with people wanting their dogs to be comfortable on a flight? I pay $80 each direction, and all I've gotten out of the airlines is rudeness. DON'T EVEN THINK OF TAKING THAT DOG OUT OF THE KENNEL. That's a direct quote as we were walking on the plane in full compliance. I think there's room -- a lot of room -- for airlines to improve their regulations for having dogs on flights.
Hahahaha No I'm not. I dont think they have the right to be rude, thats totally uncalled for. I just dont see what the big fuss about not being allowed to let dogs out of their kennel is for. Some people do NOT like dogs as much as others. Be thankful you can bring your dog on the flight. Unless their being bitches about it, you have to follow the rules. I just dont understand why its such a big fuss to people. Theres a lot of rules/laws I dont agree with, most of them being more extreme then this, but I deal with it. I don't expect to "have my cake and eat it too" I guess.

As for not being able to let them out, I can see why. Yeah one dog might be well-behaved, but what if another one isnt...then that one can't be let out and it's not fair. Where would you draw the line as to who can be let out of a carrier and who cant?

If people are complaining soo much about the regulations for the airlines, atleast be thankful you can bring the dog on the plane! If it's such a problem, try to find someone to watch the dog for you.

For the original poster though, they had no reason to be rude to you when you DID follow the rules. I would say that their just jealous.
I too can understand why they would have to stay in, but on a long flight there should be a place to take them to a pad, or care for them if they get sick. But I do not understand paying money for them to be on the flight, get no care from anyone working the flight and count as your carry on. Seems like just another way for them to get a buck.
Be thankful you can take them on the flight!!! How many animals would be left in wantless situations if owners could never take them with them, what about moving and having to fly there, should we just get rid of them???
As far as comparing them to "real babies" to some people these are the only "babies" they will ever have and they are real, and who can say how they should treat them. I have children and they behave in public, but some do not and it is disturbing and frustrating to say the least for some "rotten" child to be rude and obnoxious and for parents to expect others to just put up with it because they are "real"!!!Maybe they should be thankful that they do not have to pay for them to fly and make them behave in exchange. Maybe they should have to start paying a "fine" for ruining someones expensive dinner or flight.... In all honesty though I do not think it is a comparison as much as an observation.

The attendant was in my PO rude, and could use a class on customer service!

Rae Rae, you may not be the best person to have a pet of anykind, you do not seem to hold them in very much regard or have much respect for them. They are living, breathing beings with feelings, with the ability to show love and emotion. You as we all, should be thankful if one has chosen to love you and therefor treat him/her with the respect that deserves.

Default lets show compassion

Not everybody likes children...plain and simple...not everybody likes dogs...again plain and simple. We are all entiled to our opinions. Some people feel that children shouldn't be allowed certain places as well as dogs not be allowed certain places. You are not going to change how people feel.
I think what we need to learn is to be respectful of what is important to someone else. People who have children...that is their life. They love their children and would do anytihng to keep them safe and happy. I do not have non-furry children but respect that and listen to their stories and how much they love their children with excitement because it is important to them. I would never dream of going up and insulting them and saying "my child OR my furbaby is more important than your child". BUT in reverse, many people make rude comments to those of us who's life revolves around our furbabies. I would be deeply hurt if someone came up to me and said "my baby is more important then your furbaby".
I think we need to be considerate. I wouldn't attack them because I would consider them closed minded and a few other things and not worth my energy...but I'm trying to make the point that we all need to be careful of what we say.
Now, when I made the comment about children should be kept under control or bad smelling people, I don't consider them "less" then my dog. I'm saying that different things bother different people. A screaming child...well...it is annoying...VERY annoying on a plane...but I understand that it cannot always be helped. My point is...come on...there are so many things that bother different people...how is one yorkie, kept in a bag but put on someones lap so they can comfort them...how is that hurting anyone? Where is the compassion here for that little dog? We are showing compassion for the others on the flight...who may be annoying us...so why can't we show some compassion for this innocent thing stuck in a bag?

This was my concern too. We here all know the importance of looking after our pups and how we need to be especially careful with little ones. With Tia only being 1.1 bls. there was no way I was going to let her go 2 hours without some water. Unfortunately I assumed I would be able to at least pull the bag out from under the seat and give her some water. Even though I told her the puppies health was at risk, she told me, "Leave the Bag under the seat!!!" Luckily, I was able to get the water in and try to comfort her without removing the case, I shutter to think what could happen if I couldn't get any access. Maybe I was needlessly worrying, but I would rather err on the safe side than sorry.

What did your vet give you to use? Was it Acepromazine? Just curious because I take my first flight with my 3 year old yorkie in February.I tried one dose of the sedative at home and it seemed ok. Real glassy eyed.....kind of scarey. I get nervous also. Especially when the airlines say don't give them anything. Thanks Rose ccrose7@aol.com

I think that it shouldn't be a crime to put the carrier on your lap (or seat next to you) as long as it don't disturb the passengers next to you.
As far as having a place in the airport..... I agree there should be a place to go (some airports DO have them). ......... but having a place on the airplane for a pee pad???...... there isn't "changing stations" for babies on most of them, why would they have a place for a pee pad? That would be pushing the issue a bit, and we defintely don't want to do that..... there are too many airlines that do not allow pets on board that way it is!

Good one
Lets say you have a toddler and the (Parent) is not in control of him/her. Why is it the the airline staff are not letting that parent know to control there child.
It is not always the Child I get upset with.
Parents who think there child screaming and bouncing all over the Plane is fine and the others should too is just wrong.
Maybe they need to have a Area just for them

Wow, how did you find this old thread! You must have done some search!

Tomorrow, I will get on a plane to make the return flight home. Last Sunday was the first flight I have taken my yorkies on. They were not sedated & did fine. Bubba barked/whimpered a bit on take off & landing - he has some problems with his ears from time to time - although we were just at the vet for the health certificate & he said his ears were good. I do think his ears were popping or something. Other than that they were perfect angels. I did have them in my lap for a bit under a blanket. I know one flight attendant must have known - she just smiled at me. Praying everything goes as well on the way home.

Hope you can make your flight without medication.
