Need prayers for son and wondering if.....

You must be relieved that your son's fever has gone down and he can have the spinal tap this afternoon. The wait is very stressful, but praying the test goes well and allows a diagnosis and treatment.

Spinal taps are far from fun but hope it wasn't too awful. Do patients still have to lie flat for 12 hours after? I hope not - that was the worst. Praying some answers and treatment that will help are nearer now.

Spinal tap is done and yes he has to stay laying flat. We were told that the earliest we can expect the results will be Wed. he says he feels more nervous this time than he did for the MRI but I'm wondering if the medication they gave him is making him feel anxious as well.

Ugh - sorry about the lying flat part - that makes the whole thing double bad. Poor kid. I imagine the meds they gave him have worked together to give him some rebound effect and kind of hyped him some. One night after a sedation during a test I came home and felt so anxious I could barely sit still and was awake all that night - sort of a rebound effect of agitation maybe.

I know the wait is going to be gruesome until you know what is causing his vision loss and start treatment, find a path forward. All I can say is hold him tight when he will let you, make him his favorite foods, rent his favorite movies/audio books and pray over him and with him. Prayers continuing here in Texas for that dear son of yours.

Be SURE he stays flat for at least 12 hours....or he will have a "spinal headache" the likes of which he has NEVER experienced!!! The waiting is what KILLS me! I want tests done NOW and I want results within 5 minutes!!! Hang in there.....continuing to send prayers!! Do you knit or crochet? That ALWAYS settles my mind and gives me peace.....that and fishing.....

I think the rebound effect sounds like what he is feeling...and not being able to get up and around makes it worse. He's watching movies right now.

Fishing sounds wonderful right now😊 but not realistic. The waiting IS horrible and I've been watching reruns on Netflix. I am hoping and praying we get some good news. I'm also praying for some sleep tonight...my brain needs a break.

Thanks for letting us know that your dear son had the spinal tap. So sorry he is feeling so anxious now and so uncomfortable having to lie down and be still for so long. I know nothing about this procedure, but is he still in the hospital or was he transported flat by ambulance to home? Glad he is able to watch movies to pass the time.
Hope the anxiety allows him to sleep tonight.
The wait for results is so stressful and you have spent so much time recently waiting for tests and results. You must both be mentally exhausted.
Praying that answers will come on Wednesday and that the diagnosed disease is treatable.
Hoping your son feels more himself soon and that tomorrow is brighter for both of you. Sorry you are both going through all this and hope you get relief soon.

What a good idea, Judy, keeping those hands busy calms the mind somehow. And don't forget cross-stitch as an option. It was summer when we found out my niece had lymphoma and would be having neck surgery to remove the cancerous lump and then a round of chemotherapy. It totally wiped my sister, BIL and me - out. We were human wrecks. Of course, during the day I had my job to keep my mind busy but found that lunch at work and nights I couldn't focus on anything - just worried about my niece. One of the girls at work had started a cross-stitch kit and I bought one, too, thinking crocheting an afghan during the summer would get hot as it grew large enough to lay across my lap as I worked. I'd done several crocheted afghans and they always made me hot in warm weather as I worked away on them.

Lunchtime we would hurry and eat, take a fast walk and then sit and sew. I became almost obsessed with that cross-stitch work, looked forward to taking it up again when I was otherwise busy, frazzled, and couldn't wait to get back to it. Something about the quiet, simple, repetitive in and out, in and out, of the simple needle movements and some little sound the thread going through the fabric made became kind of hypnotic and so totally absorbing and relaxing, I was hooked. Before I knew it, I had finished the first one and went straight out to Michael's and bought another and started on it as soon as I got home. I finished around 15 of them, some large, during her illness, and framed and hung and even gifted some of them.

It really kept my mind in some kind of peaceful twilight zone that kept worry at bay and after I'd finished each one, I had a nice pastoral, cute or patriotic sampler or verse or feminine little fabric picture - a bit of personal needle craft. Lots of peace in doing a cross stitch sampler or any engrossing type of handiwork. You get far more than a framed piece of craft work out of needlework hobbies.

It's the repetitive in and out, the precise little stitches, the counting, the pretty little picture taking place that just kind of lures you in and takes over your brain while you stitch that works to push out worry. Wish I could stitch again but my neck just wouldn't stand for it now.

I find great peace in knitting and hand sewing myself- I just set some work down to check Yorkie talk because my fingers go numb often, I am so glad he was able to get the spinal tap today! I hope very much that answers come with it. My youngest daughter had to have a spinal tap at three weeks old...flat on your back is miserable and my heart aches with you and your boy. I'm so glad he has you to support him. Maybe you could fashion something for your Yorkie dear with your mind so restless and your hands needing meditative rythym- I swear some days I don't know what I would do without my hand work! I'm making lilah pants tonight my thoughts and prayers are with you- like your son and the guitar, perhaps it's time to pick up some stitchin!
