Good morning everyone!

Firstly (thank goodness!) Andy and I are now almost completely germ-free, which is a relief! His back's healing beautifully, and he now only gets the odd twinge. There's numbness in his left hand, but one of the nerves was so badly crushed that it'll take time to mend and heal. So at least that bit's going well!!!

At my parent's house - the stairlift was fitted yesterday (it's AMAZING fun!!! and mum's great on it woo hoo!). Our NHS have arranged for carers to come in 3x per day (morning, lunchtime + early evening) just for an hour each time, to bathe them or cook, or whatever they need. A district nurse will come in once a day to organise and help dad with all his medications.

Unfortunately, he wasn't allowed home yesterday - he takes Warfarin and the levels in his blood were sky-high. They're working on him and will re-test him this morning...he was so, so disappointed - but at least now their house is completely organised for his return.

So that's about it for now - love and hugs to all my lovely ladies from all of us over here!! xxx

So happy to hear both you and Andy have gotten rid of that nasty bug that had you down Andy mending well and that your dad is well enough to be coming home soon, and will have caretakers to help with cooking and caring for your parents, I continue to hold you and your family in my prayers. (((HUGS)))....Joan and Cody

Default G'Day:)

What a happy update! Things are looking up at last Sally.
How nice for you and Andy to be rid of the horrible respiratory infection, that must have dragged you down a lot. Andy is also healing well. Yeh!
Probably good that your dad was not home during the stair lift installation, but so glad it works well.
It does often take a little time to get the Warfarin levels right and he is in the right place to effectively monitor and stabilize his levels. That will soon be done and your dad will be home to his lovely home soon. I can see them both riding the rails and having fun ! The stair lift is such a wonderful help.
So happy that your mum and dad are getting all that home and nursing help. Perhaps you can get a bit of a rest now?
Thanks for writing with the good news.
Hugs. Xxxxx

Good Morning Sally! I hope it's as beautiful and sunny in Surrey this morning as it is here in the west of Ireland. We've had such lovely sunshine lately, I hope the rain stays away for another week or two at least!

I'm SO happy to hear that you and Andy are feeling much better!
Also very glad that the stairlift has been fitted ( I would have tried it out immediately, I bet it is fun!) and the district nurse and carers will be popping in every day to help your parents. I hope your dad is feeling better now and has been allowed home.

Hugs to you all from myself and Pebbles.

Good morning everyone from Sunny Surrey...we're having such amaaaaazing weather woo hoo!!! Andy looks like he's been on his holidays instead of recuperating in the garden - it's SO WONDERFUL to see him less tense, brown as a berry, and enjoying life once again. Thank you ALL so much for all your wonderful thoughts and prayers....

My dad's home eventually, having a bit of a moan because the stairlift doesn't go fast enough ( ), he doesn't care for the carers, so has cut down their hours already () and doesn't like the district nurses being around (he doesn't know where they've been, or who with, apparently!!! ). Such a nightmare, trying to cajole him into realising it's all for his benefit...my poor mum!

I promise I won't moan - but I WILL keep you posted (I love him to bits, but he's very, VERY hard work....) xxx

Hi Sally, glad to see Andy is doing well and the weather is beautiful there.
Sounds like your Dad is taking control back. It's hard for someone who has been as active as he to allow someone else to tell them when to bathe, eat and take medications. Years ago when I worked in Public Health there were people who loved having the nurse come to the house and it was the social point of their day but there were others who felt we were a interruption in their daily life.

Oh Sally, so glad to hear some positives in your life and that Andy is doing so well. I can relate to your experience with you parents - I have an elder mother who lives in assisted living and hear exactly the same things you father is saying. One day the helpers there are all angels and the next I hear they don't know what they are doing! The good news with this is they are able to be in their home and want to fight for their independence. I loved the part where the stair lift is not fast enough

Glad you are all improving and hope Harry feels he is getting all of the attention he feels he is entitled to😆

Take care!

Thank you for your good, strong words....

Trouble is, dad's taking control back, but is unable to sustain it - then it all falls back on us.

Now he's cancelled ALL care (how will my poor mother cope?!!?). He needs help with bathing - he's 6'3", both my sister and I have terrible backs, and we can't do it...mum can't do it (says she hasn't seen him naked for years, and doesn't want to start now....!!! ) It's all such a to-do.

I admire you, I think you're an angel xxx

Thank you! I realise a whole load of us are in the same boat - and I truly appreciate you sharing your experiences and telling me how to handle it! We feel like we need all the help we can get at the moment....

As for Harry - well, he's been in his element these past few weeks - he's got his daddy home with him and he's ALL HIS!!!! Oh, and Harry's ridden up and down the stair-lift on my lap a few times - he loves it, but says it's QUITE fast enough, thank you!!!!

Love and hugs from over here xxx

At last some lovely sunny weather to cheer you all up, hope it stays that way for a while. The good news is that you, Andy, and Harry are doing well now. Yeh!
But so sorry you are having the issues with your dad! He must be getting better to be ruling the roost as he is! What does he want, a jet propelled stair lift?? I would have thought he would have welcomed assistance for getting up the stairs?? As your family and mum cannot take care of some of his needs, what does he want you all to do?? Is there any way you and your mum can over rule his help hiring decisions, as you all need the assistance. I feel for you and your mum having to do all the extra work because of your dad.
Perhaps if he is left to fend for himself for a while he might better appreciate and accept the outside help. As long as you do it, he will feel he can get away with his attitude. Had to laugh at your mum's comments about the nude situation, LOL!
I have heard that it is fairly common for older people who have help to give them a hard time, and one woman I know has exhausted all the caregivers in more than one organization!! Her poor daughter is driven nuts trying to find help her mom will accept. Perhaps they feel bad that they need help at all and will not understand the truth and deal with it.
Hoping you get some resolution soon as you and mum cannot do what he needs alone.
So try and make time from all the parent chores to take care of you, and enjoy the sun!!
Good luck
Hugs, Dot xxxxx

It's wonderful to hear your updates about Andy. I really hope his pain is under control and that it soon is a thing of the past. I'm so glad that you're feeling better too.

The stair lift sounds wonderful for your dad. I'm sure it's very difficult for him to not be able to control things. I hope that once he feels more in control, he will be willing to accept more assistance. You have so much already on your plate to cope with, and your mom must feel so frazzled.

You have so many people who really care about you, and we are pulling for you. I always look forward to reading your warm and cheery posts.
