| Cat scan on ankle Tomorrow morning I go in for a cat scan on my ankle/lower leg to determine if it has healed. I am quite concerned because since I started walking 3 weeks ago my ankle stays very swollen and hurts all of the time. I would appreciate your prayers. I don't know what will be next on the agenda if the ankle is still unhealed I found this little story and since it lifted my spirits a bit about the cat scan, I thought I'd share it with my YT family. A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away." The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?" Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet. "How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something." The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. $150!" she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!" The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150." |

| Well, the cat scan is done and I go back to the ortho on Monday at 2:30. I'll be needing extra prayers for my ankle - that there is a logical reason for the pain and swelling OTHER than the fracture not healing. Thank you so very much for all of your comments, thoughts and prayers. |

| Having worked for orthopods all my life, I know it is very common for orthopedic injuries that result in surgery or casting to swell for 6 - 8 mos. after surgery/cast and often the swelling causes pain itself, not just the pain of the still-healing injury. For every candle over 21 and every pound just over "skinny", that holds extra true. I hope and pray that your CT scan is fine and this is just the routine.

Fast forward to early June of this year when I found out that the break(s) never healed and the titanium plate broke. By the third week in June I had found an incredible ortho (one of only 15 in the US) who specializes in leg lenghtening and non union fractures. Dr. T performed surgery to clean the non unions, break the fibula and tibia, and install an external fixator with adjustors to facilitate rotating my ankle to straighten it and lengthing my leg by 1 1/2". I was encouraged to use the leg - the more I used it the quicker it would heal. Finally at the end of September I was able to walk unassisted. Unfortunately my ankle is swelling and becoming more painful since I started walking . Hopefully it is just part of the healing process. Dr. Terrell is a miracle worker. I honestly believe that God sent me to his practice. Here's a link to Dr. Terrell's website if you are interested Mission: POSSIBLE - William D. Terrell, M.D. | |

| Whoa..............girl, you have been through the orthopedic knothole and back again. Nonunions are orthopedics ugliest!!! As you know, many with your Hx. would have had a BK amputation! Thank God you found a specialist in non-u's but it does sound par for the course to be still swelling and hurting unless you are a 21 year old professional athlete. I just pray all is on course once you get your report. My ortho's used to say with orthopedics the way you know you are getting better is when your good days outnumber your bad and the bad days are not as bad as they once were. Progress comes very slowly in old-fashioned(not including arthroscopy) orthopedics.
