Thinking of you and Ken hugs to both of you |
Sending prayers for strength, comfort, and healing for Ken. Patti, you and your husband are in my thoughts every day. |
Thanks. Just a brief update. We saw the radiologist yesterday and he was surprised that Ken had had no relief from his back pain the 2 weeks of radiation. He has 2 more treatments left. I asked about a procedure where they put medical cement in the space that is collapsed in his vertabrea so they set up an appt for next week with an interventional radiologist. Ken is down to 103 lbs. Chemo starts up 4/13. Prayers are so appreciated. |
I have been where you are, battling cancer in a loved one, and it is such a heavy, heavy burden for both of you. I am praying for relief from the pain this terrible disease is causing your DH, and I am praying for comfort and strength for you. You have to lean on Him for support and He will get you both through this dreadful time. |

They just called and moved the appt with he interventional radiologist to tomorrow. So hopefully we will know more tomorrow and find out if Ken can have the procedure and get some pain relief. |
Patti, words simply cannot express how sad I am that you and Ken are going through this. Having walked in your shoes, I know all too well what it is like. I will continue to keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Sending hugs too! |
I was just crushed to read about Ken's weight and all the continuing pain. That poor, sweet man. I cannot even imagine what he's going through and you, Patti, as his wife and caregiver. And your own tests ahead to worry about. I'm praying so hard that his doctors can find a new protocol or something to do that can really help him and give him a reason for hope. And of course I pray your results are completely negative and the statement "return in one year for follow-up". If there is anything more I can do, please PM me. You all are never far out of my thoughts. God go with you. |
Patti, I am so sorry Ken is still in pain and has lost so much weight. We also have had cancer in our family, and it almost feels like you're fighting in a war/combat. We will continue to keep both of you in our prayers. |
Thanks so much. Ken has had a really bad evening. He so needs a break. |
Patti, I'm so sorry to hear that Ken is in so much pain. I hope he will be able to obtain some relief very soon. Continued prayers for the both of you. |

I join all of you in prayer for Patti and Ken. I so hope that his pain can be more well managed. I am keeping you both in my prayers and thoughts. |
Thanks. We met with the interventional radiologist today. He gave us three options. Do nothing and it should heal in 8 weeks, have the verteboplasty in the next couple of days or see if the pain is more from the cancer and give the radiation more tie to work. Ken decided to wait and see for now. The doctor could not evoke pain where the fx is so he couldn't guarantee the procedure would fix the problem. He said Ken needed to walk more to ease muscle spasms and use a heating pad. Also a whirlpool tub but we don't have one. Today was his last radiation treatment yeah! He starts chemo back up on he 13th so he has a little break. I am going to try and build him up a little if I can. This has been a long road made easier by all your prayers and support. |
Patti, I am praying that Ken's pain will subside and that he will be able to eat and prepare for the next round of chemo. Does the hospital or one of its affiliates have a whirlpool that Ken could use? Since whirlpools are used for physical therapy, I would think somewhere would grant other patients access for medical purposes. I know that would mean more trips which probably doesn't appeal to him much. Or, I think you can buy a device that hangs over the side of a regular bathtub to create a whirlpool like effect. I have never tried one, so I don't know how good they are. |
Alan had the procedure you are speaking of, it really helped wih his back pain. For Alan it was a very simple procedure... In and out he said it helped the pain a lot. |
You and your husband are in my prayers! |

Praying for you both... I have this model whirlpool from Conair: beats not having anything.... |
Still keeping you and Ken in my prayers. Hopefully this will all be over soon! HUGS |
Thanks for the great suggestions. I am going to see about getting something for the bathtub. Also, ask about some physical therapy to include whirlpoools. I am glad to hear Alan was helped by the procedure and it wasn't too bad. I am going to let Ken know that. |
