| Yorkie and Small Dog Rescue Texas Has anyone heard of this orginization or delt with them? I found them while searching online and they have a yorkie I would be interested in, apparently he doesn't do well with children but is only 1.5 years old, he gets nippy I guess, but they are working with him. I do realize the nipping is a problem but apparently he does fine with adults and loves people except children so I think it could be worked with to an extent. He is also good with other dogs. I've always wanted to rescue and he is adorable. So if anyone here is part of their group or has rescued one of their babies I would appreciate any advice.

| I do like their website and don't see any red flags. In regards to Bently a fear bitter Yorkie is a major undertaking. Many of these little ones that bite out of fear never really get over this and people really have to be prepared to protect the dog from themselves (never put them in a situation where the dog becomes fearful). This dog should never be around children as he obviously does not like them. Many Yorkies do not like children so he will have to be placed in just the right home.

| He is very cute! And I do like the website also. I think if you're ready to try and know what to expect then you should do it! He really needs a good home and a loving mom (like you)! |

| My two senior girls are nippy with children, therefore, they are always gated when my granddaughter is around. They both come from horrific backgrounds, and I just accept that is the way it will be. Actually, I also keep my two boys gated, away from any danger that a small child may unintentionally cause.

| They only wanted to adopt him to a family in the houston area ( about 5 hours from where I am) I really was up for the challenge. I suppose it must not have been meant to be. It will happen when the time is right!

| Sorry you did not getthat Yorkie It is so easy to fall for these babies, however you did seem to accept maybe it was'nt meant to be? I have raised 3 Yorkies and they are all so different. Two never nipped, 1 has almost chewed my fingers up. Would be nice to have a trial with Yorkie in home. Yorkie experts do say they are better in adult only homes. I say it depends on dogs and kids. Hope you find your baby Yorkie. |

| HELLO, I have a rescue yorkie, ive had him for over six months he was in a cage in the middle of a field for a year and a half and was in a rescue for abount six months, when i got him he coward and still gets a little nippy when you accidently touch him with your foot in the middle of the night and let me tell you how grateful these babies are and really crave attention, some times im watching tv and find him looking at me like with so much love, believe me they are timid at first and he was a little nippy at first i think its a defense mechanism that i believe he had to have to survive with, but once they no that they are loved and secure and that your here to stay for them, theres no other love,i have four yorkies now and just got another from a yt member that was allergic to him a couple of weeks ago his name is skip his mommy was allergic to him,he is 11months old and very scared,i hhad a hard time getting him out of his cage he would just shrink to the back of the kennel for about a week i let him sleep right beside me in the kennel and now he sleeps right next his mommy and has to be touching me and now he plays and plays with both my youngest yorkies including the puppy mill baby,it will take love and attention, that what they deserve and patience because skip took about two weeks just for his personalty to come out, nikki it took only a week because he had a great foster home and i believe little skip was not socialized very well,i know how it is when your allergiic,i have a cat right now im fostering, even though im allergic and can not touch him,my fiancee gives tom attention but i cannot,it really shows how much these rescues can love with time and patience. sorry it was so long |

| Growing up my parents rescued 2 dogs, and it was a wonderful experiance. I do accept it must not have been meant to be, I just hope they find him a good home. I think DH was more upset than I was, he said "what if we sign a paper that WE will bring it back if it doesn't work out" I had to try to explain it to him, even though I dont' really understand myself since you DO sign something saying that. We are both VERY patient people with animals and I've been around dogs that nip (one of our rescues growing up hated rollar skates and wheels in general, not to mention people who would poke him). But I suppose if it wasn't meant to be it just wasn't.

| I am guessing one of the things rescue looked at is your age and the future potential for having children. This is a dog that doesn't like children and they probably did not want to take the chance that in 4/5 years he is back in rescue because you might have children and he is now nipping or biting your children. We have seen YT members have to rehome their Yorkies after they had children because not all Yorkies like children but in this case the dog was given to rescue because of this. In regards to having children these are not questions rescue can really ask and be guaranteed an answer. I hope you can understand the concern they would feel with this dog and children. Also, when rescue places a dog it has to be with the intention of the last home placement and not with the idea of a trial basis. They do accept dogs back but they work very hard not to have the dog going through rotating doors. It is not good for the dogs. A reputable rescue will always place the interest of the dog over individuals to find the perfect home in their opinion. I don't have statistic's on reputable rescue groups and what % of dogs stay with the homes they are placed with but I am sure it is higher than animal control which is 50% of the dogs placed are returned to animal control. Animal control usually are under state laws to place dogs within so much time or the dogs are put down so they figure at least 50% of the dogs have a shot. They are just trying to place as many dogs/cats as they can in a very short period of time and they hope for the best.
