Growing up my parents rescued 2 dogs, and it was a wonderful experiance. I do accept it must not have been meant to be, I just hope they find him a good home. I think DH was more upset than I was, he said "what if we sign a paper that WE will bring it back if it doesn't work out" I had to try to explain it to him, even though I dont' really understand myself since you DO sign something saying that. We are both VERY patient people with animals and I've been around dogs that nip (one of our rescues growing up hated rollar skates and wheels in general, not to mention people who would poke him). But I suppose if it wasn't meant to be it just wasn't.
