| Fitzy hurt his leg and is still limping Yesterday we were carrying Fitzy outside at a friend's house, and he saw something he liked so he all of a sudden wiggled out of our arms and did a back flip, landing on the pavement. On impact, he hurt either his paw or lower leg, and he was crying very loudly. Now, a little more than 12 hours later, he is crying when he shifts his weight around the kennel and is screaming if someone touches his leg. Is there a possibility of a fracture? Should I bring him to the vet or will he tough it out eventually? |

| I would rather be safe than sorry, I would get him to the vet ASAP for an exam since you don't know if it is fractured or not...it sounds like it's really painful for him....Good luck....Hope he's better soon

| A dog crying out in pain is not normal. Please rush him to the Vet. It very well could be a fracture. Poor baby, I do hope he is OK!

| I'd call the vet, and ask if he feels he needs to be seen.

| I feel so horrible. It happened last night, and I have literally not had a free minute. My fiancee and I are both students, so we have class all day today until three. Then I have a night class and she has work. We can't take him to our vet until tomorrow. I can't concentrate. All I can think about is him sitting locked in his cage looking sad. I really wish I could be home today, but I have two exams. |

| Do you have a friend or neighbor that could take him to your vet or to an emergency vet? I don't want to scare you, but if a major bone is fractured and it is not promptly treated it could result in life threatening complications.

| Please get Fitzy to the vet now. Being a pet owner means you are responsible for his medical care. To think that he could have a broken leg since yesterday is sinfull. I understand your a college student with obligations but you dog is a major oblication as well. I do hope it's not broken but the thought of him in pain and not getting the medical attention he requires is not being a good pet owner. Sorry but that is how I feel. |

| Okay, good news: In between classes, I called my parents. They called in a favor from their neighbor who is a retired vet. She went in my apartment while I was out to look at fitzy. She said that his leg is not swollen, there's no tearing, and seems to be in the right position (though he has it raised in the air). She thinks it was just a sprain that should start feeling better in a few days. In the mean time, I could give him the pain meds I have leftover from his surgery. Thank God, because after spending $2,000 on his surgery, another vet visit with an x-ray would've meant a credit card over the limit. I've spent a lot on him in vet bills, maxing out a credit card, having to get a personal loan, and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ramen for a month. But go ahead and call me irresponsible with my dog. Last edited by Stephen; 09-04-2007 at 01:29 PM. |

| I'm so please your baby's injury is not too serious. Sorry if we sounded as though we were naging you, but we are all just concerned middle aged mamas ( well I am) I took the liberty of reading your other threads and found you have had problems with your baby and have dealt with them in an admiral way. You obviously care very much for your baby. So again sorry if we came on strong, it just shows that we care. Hugs to you and Fitzy.
