| Cleo vomiting and mucoussy (sp?) stools Cleo has been acting fine then a few days ago I awoke to sick all over my bed. I changed my bed got up and took her outside to see if she would poop or anything. She done nothing. This was at 2am. I had work at 6am so I gave her through to my mum to watch till I had to get up. There was no way I could phone in sick to watch her. She was sick through the night and didnt sleep at all. By the time I woke up at 5 she was still awake and my mother was exhausted and she too had to change her bed as she was sick. She started eating her dry puppy kibble so thought her episode was over as after she went to sleep. I went to work and a few hours in my mum sent me a message to say she kept eating and being sick continously. I told her to take the food away, try to coax her to drink and let her rest. She then didn't wretch or poop for ages. Till again through the night she was sick, this time just foamy bile. Then settled down to sleep. In the morning she just jumped up and ran to her pee pads and her poop literally just slid out of her. It also had a brown jelly like liquid with it. Gross. She was fine playing all day, ate a little bland food, which I was advised to give her. After about 7 hours she was out in the garden to do her buisness when she started to bring up more foamy bile (with grass) She hasn't been sick since and this was around 16 hours ago. She seems to be acting a lot better now, but she still isn't pooping regularly. Only done 3 in the past 2 days, which isn't very usual for her. The vet advises just watching her and keeping her on bland food. Which seems to be doing the trick. Just wondering if anyone had a similiar experience and had any tips? With our bigger dogs its usually easier for them to get over something like a tummy upset, or eating something they shouldn't have. This is my first time with a little dog, and a tiny puppy! Any advice appreciated, especially about the brown jelly like liquid that came out with her poop. Thanks!

| Get a stool sample to the vet and make sure she doesn't get dehydrated. It sounds like she might have giardia (a parasite) and meds will help quickly. Good luck and keep us posted.

| My girl was sick too! Hi Cleo's Mom, My Sassy-3yrs old- was sick for a whole 6 days and visited the vet all 6 days as well as being on IV's the entire time. Started out with her eating a huge grasshopper that upset her tummy...she didn't want to eat so I changed her food to get her to eat...Wrong Wrong Wrong move. She got much worse and so we took her to the vet and $1700.00 later she's ok...pancreatitis was the diagnosis! Very bad and acute case that could of taken her life. Next time I know not to ever change her food and in fact take food away and offer small amounts of water only. If she doesn't get better, then the vet again. These little one's are #2 for pancreatitis and this is very dangerous for them. Hope this helps! KathleenM |

| Cleo is much better, still no idea what was causing her ailments but what matters is that she is in tip top shape again. Thankyou for the help! She was on a bland diet for a while there to build her energy back up. It's amazing how much a dog can mean to you, she's literally my daughter!

I JUST went through this!!! To save you a lot of money in vet bills, get some metronidazole for Giardia! I spent over $800 trying to figure out what was wrong with mine!! They still don't know what it was, but I am almost positive it was Giardia and it sounds the same as your mess! Mine went on for over two weeks (vomiting and diarrhea) until one night all he** broke loose and I took Mia to the emergency vet! It was horrible! The vet thought it was food related at first, NOPE. They thought it might be an obstruction, NOPE. They thought it might be worms (even with 2 negative tests). They thought colitis or pancreatitis, NOPE. I had x-rays, blood work, stool samples, the works. But if you research it, mucusy stools are usually Giardia. Giardia often times doesn't show up on stool samples (didn't in my case). But, I ended up getting some fluids (injected) for mine for dehydration, I got some Pancur (dewormer) just in case it was worms, I got Metronidazole (antibiotic) for Giardia, and some Fortiflor (natural live cultures for digestion) to put on their food. After this treatment they are 100% better. I think the Metronidazole was all I needed though, but hey, better safe than sorry! If you have any further questions, PM me!
