Im with you...Diggy is extremo hypo....Like seizures and all...well 2 different times but once was enuff for me Narrowing it down to hypo was not fun but relieved it was the diagnosis....I was scared to death it was shunt or problems with neurological system. He could not make it through the night with out food and nutrical.....Spent many many nights staring at him while he slept wondering if his blood sugar was low, wondering if he was going to have seizure all that good (bad) stuff..... Good News is I think he has outgrown the hypo....I continue to free feed and make sure he eats at least every 4 hours. I do not get up in the middle of the night to feed anymore. I jusy make sure he eats really good before bed and as soon as I get up he gets fed. FAST I am always worried the hypo can act up again. Never know.....

Donating YT 11K Club Member | It could be livershunt although I REALLLY hope it's not. I'm just saying that because I know Sammi's mom, that had Rio also noticed Rio's balance was not good and she was wobbly, etc and it turned out to be LS

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | DIggy was wobbly with Hypo. Also seem to be blind and sooo disoriented. Very sad to see........He could barely sit up straight but that was after his seizure....SO I am sure he was exhausted.

| What is liver shunt? I am curious about what liver shunt is. I am new to owning a Yorkie. I guess mine is healthy because I don't have any of these problems that I know of. |

I would suggest reading all you can about what it takes to breed yorkies & the possible problems that can arise - it's not like a bigger dog ....there's alot to learn before breeding. Good luck with your baby and the shooter site is a good place to start... but there are also some good books on breeding posted here - you can do a search in the Breeder section.... | |

| Doing Great Today! Marley is doing 100% better today. I ended up putting her to bed and using a syringe without the needle to give her some water. I made sure she was okay thoughout the night and this morning when she pounced on my bed i knew she was better. Im going to read up on all of the information that you guys provided me. This has happen to her before and she was tested for diabetes. She came up negative for that and any neurological problems. When this happen before they looked for any signs that she had eaten something and we couldnt find any so they just treated her for being toxicated. But, yesterday I know that she didn't eat anything funny because I was with her all night until after dinner and when I tried to pick her up she was weird. Thank you all for your help!

| Is she small? I would definately have the vet rule out liver problems. There has to be a reason for the seizure.. liver, hypoglycemia, etc. I"m glad she's doing better.

| It could still be hypoglycemia or liver shunt or MVD, she needs to have her bile acids tested. You also ran a HUGE risk of losing her by not taking her into the vet. The next time this happens please please rush her to the vet even if it is an emergency vet. If this has happened before then you have a really big problem. I just don't see how giving her water is going to be any help. When she is in that condition she could go into seizures or a coma and she would be gone before you know it. Learn from our experience and prevent the lose of your baby. Glad she's doing better for now.

| BTW, you said that this has happened before and your vet treated her for being toxicated? Did he even mention looking at her glucose level or bile acids? You may want to get a second opinion.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | In my opinion set up a Bile Acid Test...its in expensive and they will also look at her for Hypoglycemia. I would continue to feed mini meals and ALWAYS free feed no matter what. If it is hypo this will help her. SHE COULD END UP IN A SEIZURE if it is hypo...same with liver issue. Trust me the test is around 100 and well worth every penny. My baby is 14 weeks and has had seizures from hypo, as soon as I found out what it was, and gave him NO medication by the way...he just got fed every 3-4 hours and when he didnt wanna eat and seemed a lil sluggish gave him nutrical he bounced right up please follow through with your baby....Diggy went from playing bouncing barking and soooo happy to seizing and not being able to walk, and temporary blindness.....You DO NOT want this to happen. If you listen to anything we advise you to do...listen to this. Notice how everyone pretty much says the same thing???Its because we have all seen it....its sooooooo common....and wether it be liver issue or hypo....in a lot of cases its diet controlled and could save your babies life!! Keep us posted and take care!!!!!

| response Hey everyone, I just want everyone to know that Marley has been okay the past couple of days! She seems like she is eating more than usual but thats pretty much it. She wasnt on any type of schedule and I am being strict now so she is kind of getting used to it. Anyway, Marley did not have seizure. She was not shaking or anything like that she was just acting like she was extremely drowsy. Similiar to how we would be if we took a sleeping pill and were forced to be active. The only other weird thing was that she was walking funny and wasn't licking. Last time this similiar thing happen, we had all types of tests done. They tested her blood glucose levels and also checked to see if she had diabetes. They also tested to see if she had neurological problems. They all came back negative. If this were to happen again I would definitely take her in. When this happen before she was treated for toxicity because the hospital couldn't find anything positively wrong with her. She didnt throw up or poop the whole time she was in there and all her blood tests/etc. came back negative. thanks again everyone for your help!
