I'm so glad to read the updates and see that little Mickey is improving. But his poor tummy! Marcel just got over giardia and our vet gave him Sucralate pills (I think that was it) during the treatment regimen to coat his tummy and prevent him from being nauseous. Maybe ask your vet about this one? I'm trying to think of what foods make my guys go wacko: cheese, chicken, cereal, soft dog treats, toddler "graduates" little hot dogs. Scrambled eggs maybe? Maybe try some "carby" stuff like saltines in order to absorb some acid. I do hope his tummy starts to feel better! |
poor baby....I hate that he's not eating well yet....what about liverworst or something they really go crazy for ??? Even baby food at this point would be ok....I've really had him on my mind .....I'm hoping he starts to feel better and eats a nice meal for you |
Well Mickeys eating a little here and there, but it all comes back up, so does his meds. he cant seem to hold any thing down even the stomach meds for upset tummys. Hes on 6 different meds and its been a lot of work, and so hard to get them down him cause I cant put them in food he dont want the food. and once I get them down , he is off throwing them all up again. We have tried feeding him his reg food, cheese, chicken, cereal, treats, . Scrambled eggs icecream, chicken, steak, hamburgar, Turkey breast, chicken breast lunch meat. Prescription a/d , Prescription S/D,. he did eat like 10 bites of the hamburgar and steak bites, but that came up, he did eat the turkey breast but that came up. he ate a little cottage cheese, but that came up. so today I start him on the c/d Prescription feed by syringe. But I dont know how thats going to stay down, if nothing else seems to be. hes still crying and straing to get just a few drops of pee out. and now his poo is like black tar. hes so skinny. Please keep praying for him. Thanks. |
His stool looks like black tar? That's not a good sign. I have read that it could mean bleeding in the GI tract, and I've also that pepto bismol will cause their stools to be black. I don't want to alarm you, but I would definitely tell the vet about it. I'm praying for Mickey to get better still. |
oh no....poor baby!!! i would call the vet again! that doesnt sound good at all, im praying for your poor baby!!! i have heard black poop means bleeding also..... |
I bet the back poop is from the tummy meds, I would call the vet to see if they can cause that. Poor Mickey, praying that the little guy gets back to his old self soon. |
It's so sad that Mickey is still not doing well. Maybe the vet needs to put him on IV's so he can regain some strength and have enough fluid in his little body to pee....this really makes my heart hurt for him and you and it concerns me greatly how much longer the little fella's body can deal with it... |

Deb, I do not want to be an alarmist but I think you need to take Mickey in to a vet ASAP today. Black tarry stools are not a good sign. If he has been on pepto bismol it can make their poop very dark as can pain meds but you say he is not keeping them down anyway. this combination of not being able to keep food down, straining to pee and diahrrea does not sound good. Here is an article for you. http://www.petplace.com/dogs/melena-...ogs/page1.aspx |
I called the ER , but noones returned my call so far. Im hoping the black poo is caused from all his meds, he didnt do that untul I started giving him the tummy meds yesterday. But will have it checked out. I gave him some vet priscription food through the syringe, going to see if he can keep that down, I only gave him one large srynge full so far , will keep this up the rest of the day and see how it goes, If it keeps coming back up ill have to take him in in the morning to start a IV, I dont think its not that he dont want to eat, I think its all making him sick at his tummy, and its might be all the different meds hes on and taking with out any thing on hie tummy. Well its been over an hour and so far the food I feed him through the syringe has stayed down. keep your fingers crossed. |

i am praying for you baby still...hopefully he will keep the food down, poor little thing |
Is there not a rectal suppository for dogs to stop the nausea & vomiting? You have to stop the vomiting before you can give anything by mouth, even water can be nauseating on an empty stomach. Please check into this, I'm sure there has to be one. Help, anyone? |
1 Attachment(s) Well when I got off here earlyer The vet called me back , I had left him a message about Mickeys poop looking like black tar. He said to bring him right in, Well He was leaving with in 30 minutes from the time we talked and there was no way we could make it there in time. So I called him back and said I would bring him in first thing in the morning and that way it would give me a chance to bring in a stool sample too. well The good news is Mickeys kept down three large syringe full of the a/d prescription diet This is what I feed him in the syringe. and lots of water and pedylite, . hes even went out 4 times today, but over did it and couldnt walk back in. He was so excited to see my kids here, They came for Mothers day and he was up and wagging his little stub . The bad news is, Its time to give him his meds again and thats what I think is making him sick. so will talk to the vet in the morning when I take him in to see if any of the meds is whats causing him to be sick, becaus ewith out the meds he keeps the food down. hes drinking his pedylite and keeps it down his water too, well until I give him those meds. heres a pic of the poor little guy resting. |
