That poor sweet baby ... and poor YOU! They are so pathetic when they're ill and it just breaks your heart. Here's hoping that both you and Mickey get a much deserved break VERY soon.:) |
Oh, that little honey. I just want to erase this situation for him. I'm a nurse so I've seen my share of stitches. The pics are a bit blurry. The skin should not be "open" or "splitting away" from where it it supposed to meet. It should be a neat stitch if the incision is a straight line. Stitches should be compact, firm, tight but not straining, and NOT loose or "loopy". They should lay nice and flat/tight agains the skin and hold the line nicely. If you see anything less than this, I would call that vet office and give them the riot act. Stitches aren't rocket science and if they cannot get stitches right, I would never go there again. In fact, if you paid using your credit card, I would let them know that you are going to object to all or some of the charges unless they provide enough of a refund for you to go elsewhere to get the stitches re-done. Is he oozing or anything? A bad stitch can let in not only foreign bacteria, but it can also let in our ususal bacteria that lives on our skin (staph) - you don't want this. An infection would be terrible for this little honey. Is he on antibiotics? Lastly, load him up w/ as much pain medication as appropriate for his size - pain should be managed, not felt severely - and if he's in a lot of pain then they are not managing his pain sufficiently at all. The more the pain is managed, the speedier recovery. I'm so sorry for your baby. I've sent something via Villette and hope that it helps ease some of the strain. Blessings for a speedy recovery. Hugs, Ann |
Wow, I have never seen stitches look like that before. I hope your baby is feeling better real soon! Keep us posted. |

I am glad you are going to call the Dr. and honestly I would bring him back immediatly. I know that those photos are blurry, but they do look VERY LOOSE. I just can't believe that's the way they should be. If you feel uncomfortable about how they look, then please bring him back before an infection begins. |
I would go and see another vet personally. He looks kinda butchered to me and after 3 days he shouldnt still be whining. Ask for more pain meds at least to help him. If hes in a ton of pain hes not gonna want to eat. Thats a huge incision, much larger than needed. Im feel terrible that hes going through that. Also ask other vets about giving him a bath but my vet said not until about 10 days after surgery. I will pray things start to improve for him... poor guy:( |
I knew I should have not looked! Poor Mickey looks like he's crying and I am sitting here crying right along with him. It has got to better after this! Get better Mickey and EAT:) We're all rooting for you, don't let us down little guy. Hang in there! |

pain management is very important for him....it will allow him to be comfortable and then in turn he'll eat, drink and recover much faster. if you feel the pain meds aren't enough then definitely ask for something stronger. |
Ah.... Mickey looks so sad and it looks like he really had invasive surgery. Those stitches don't look too good to me. Poor baby. :( I hope he feels better soon for his and your sakes. Please keep us informed. Thanks. |

I didn't bathe Miko until his stitches came out either. I did clean the area around the stitches per the vets orders. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is the same picture, I just added the colors red, blue, green to try and point out whats what, becaus eI know its hard looking off a picture. |
Thanks for the new picture. Does it look ok to you? If you feel the slightest bit uncomfortable, please bring him back ASAP. If there are open areas that needs to be addresses, you don't want an infection to occur. |

Get him in immediately, honey! Do you have a mobile vet in your city? Maybe someone could come to you so Mickey doesn't have to go in. I would take some very good pictures and send them to the vet license board. I would ask that vet who it was that stitched him and I would demand they pay for the restitch at a different facility. I am so furious at your vet. I am so sorry for what you're going through. |
Can you really see inside of his incision???? That should NEVER be. The poor dog no wonder he is crying in pain. Take him in to another vet. Please let us know how you make out. I feel terrible for both of you!:( |
