| Goose Honking maybe? I've noticed when Vinnie plays with a toy he gets all worked up and sometimes makes a sound that sounds to me like a goose honk, he has no other problems and it only happens when he plays, i'm trying not to be paranoid and read to much into it, but should I be worried about his trachea? |

| I took Lola in for her reverse sneezing. The vet specifically asked me if it was a "honking like a goose" or a sneeze. I told her sneeze. She then told me if I ever hear honking to bring her in as that is the sound they make when they have a collapsed trachea. Perhaps it could be something else...but I would take your little one in just incase. |

| A collapsing trachea is very common in yorkie's and is usually nothing to worry about. They very rarely do anything to correct it, only in exteme cases. It usually only happens when their over excited. I would take the puppy in just to make sure that it isn't that severe, but my vet said that unless they're doing it at rest and it starts to interfere with their activities, that they really just leave it alone and monitor it. Don't really think you have anything to worry about. |

| The ER vet gave us a print out about Reverse Sneezing. She also told me if you ever have any questions regarding your pets health to use this link (below) because it is the one that the vets use. She said if you do a google search you will usually end up more confused! Reverse Sneezing (Pharyngeal Gag Reflex) Authored by: Becky Lundgren, DVM Reverse sneezing is a disconcerting event in which a dog makes unpleasant respiratory sounds that sound like it is dying -- or will die in the next few minutes. Reverse sneezing sounds similar to the honking noise made by a dog with a collapsing trachea, but reverse sneezing is a far simpler condition that usually does not need any treatment. It is called reverse sneezing because it sounds a bit like a dog inhaling sneezes. The sound the dog makes can be so scary that many owners have rushed in a panic to emergency clinics in the middle of the night. to see the rest of this article see the link below. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Con...S=0&C=0&A=2335 http://www.veterinarypartner.com/

| My Bailey started to do this one day during a bath and i was sure that i'd manage to get water in her lungs or something, i was so freaked out. The next day i took her to the Vet and he explained that yorkies tracheas just tend to be very weak, that it was very common and usually nothing to worry about. He said that in 13 years practicing he'd never had to refer someone for trachea repair surgery which made me feel much better. He also advised not to use a collar when walking them because it puts pressure on the trachea if they pull, and to use a harness instead. Hope this helps, i know how scary it can be with these little guys. |

| Conner also does this when we play. I usually just rub his throat and it goes away quickly. The vet also said it was nothing to worry about.

| I have a human form of collapsing trachea as well as severe bronchial asthma and chronic pneumonia/bronchitis. You should hear human "honking." You'd swear there was a duck dying a couple feet away I was just blessed with bad lungs/respiratory system. But, I'm still here and healthy at 19. It can't be too serious

| Maddie "honks" in the middle of the night sometimes. It is really scary. We have brought her to the vet twice and have been told tht it is not a collapsed trachea, but rather a flap of skin that she is trying to get back in place. I rub her throat and she gets through it. It usually lasts for about 20-30 seconds, but it feels like much longer. |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | Baby makes that noise like a goose honking sometimes after she eats. I have only heard her do it like 3 times. I will definitely keep a eye on her and if it continues I will have her checked out. Last edited by yougetthesmiles; 04-21-2007 at 05:13 AM. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I think the first few times you hear it, it does freak you out. I was ready to run to the vet the first time I heard it out of Jilly, but then I remembered reading something about it here on YT. So I jumped on the computer, did my research and felt better. Next vet appt. it was discussed. She said what everyone here said. Now when it happens (rarely) I just try to calm the girls, tell them it's gonna be okay and rub their throats. Ususally only lasts for 30 seconds or less.
