| I agree, have your babies tested for liver shunt....Vivi had a low blood sugar seizure as a puppy....I did not test for bile acids at that time....I convinced myself that it was a glycemic attack and did not need further testing.....Serious denial on my part.....she should have been tested because she does have a liver shunt. When she was a puppy she would have been eligible for LS surgery but because I waited her liver did not develop properly which caused high blood pressure inside her liver and due to this she is ineligible for surgery now. So go ahead and have the test ....the sooner you know the better the outcome. And if it turns out to be nothing then you will have peace of mind. Best of luck and positive wishes are coming your way.

| I'm so sorry to hear about Lily and the other babies. It is a good idea to check for a liver shunt. I recently experienced a rush to the vet with my two yorkies. First, my little boy started throwing up one night around 11:00 p.m. and didn't stop until about 1:30 a.m. He strained his little tummy and small amounts of blood started coming out. Scared me to death, spoke to er vet and he told me give him a small amount of pepto bismal. So I ran at 2:00 a.m. to Wallyworld (thank goodness for 24hr) and came home and medicated. Later that morning he wouldn't eat, drink, play, he felt so bad. Then later on he ate small bacon bits (salad type) and kicked right up. Then my little girl wouldn't eat or drink. She weights 3 lbs 4 oz. I was in the kitchen and she looked like she stumbled. I thought at first she was just being clutsy on my wood floor. Then she tried going upstairs and fell back, well needless to say I grabbed her up to check her. She seemed ok, but when I sat her down she fell. She had no control. I called er vet again and he said give her honey. I asked if Karo would work and he said he has had better luck with honey. He said watch her an hour and if not better take her to er. After giving her honey she started throwing up, she hadn't before. So I called out the er vet and took both in. Well turns out baby girl has - according to symptons hypoglocemia. We discussed seizures and vet said that "normally" epilepsy is not seen until 6 months to two years. If she was 4 months she wouldn't even be worried, but since she is almost 6 months, I need to start watching. She also stated, keeping the honey on hand if this happens again and just make sure the honey gets in the jaws. The babies have glands on each side for absorption. This will kick them right up if blood sugar is low. With the baby girl only being 3 lb 4 oz. and up and playing that morning without food, she wore herself down and had no reserve to pull from for sugar. Hope this can help someone else. Tinksmomok |

I have already spend 3.600 pounds with Boo-Boo and I don't regret a single second spending this money. For me my babies are so important, i would do anything.

Thank you for this information. The article I read was by a vet and it didn't mention that puppies may not show ANY symptoms. My dogs are from very healthy lines but everyone knows that a throwback can happen anytime. I will have her tested as soon as I can get the money. Thanks again. Sylvia

| I have been told and read several articles that said LS doen't usually show up before the dog turns 5 years old. I think we have seen enough proof that if this was true, it is no longer. If he is still having seizures, get him tested for your own peace of mind. Sylvia |

| Lily is still fighting us but she's acting better. More like a normal puppy, just very skinny. She gets out and plays with the other dogs and I sit and watch her very closely. After she's had enough I make her eat something even tho she seems fine. Then I force feed her again in about 2 hours. Someone suggested using a blender to chop up the dry puppy food. It wasn't explained very well and I assumed she meant into powder. I don't think this would be very easy to swallow from her dish. If I sprinkled it on her wet food then she could eat it but otherwise I think it would be too dry to swallow. I have since thot that maybe what she meant was just to chop it up into smaller bits than what comes out of the package. I haven't tried it yet but I will. I think it might make a difference. Please, please, please, how do you get them to put weight on?!! I have been trying and trying and nothing I do seems to help. For the 2 weeks she was seizure free she started to put on a little padding and now it's all gone again. What are you feeding him? Sylvia | |

| i had a yorkie only 3 months old he's name was teddy the smallest thing ever he had about 5 seizure in one week... 1st time he had one we took him to the er paid about $100 and the doctor didn't tell us anything at that time we didn't know what was going on. we just saw him bump in to thing like he couldn't see where he was going. the doctor just said that maybe he was going blind -_-; later we let the breeder know and she took him to her vet and the vet told her that there was something wrong with his liver after that we couldn't stand seeing him like that so the breeder let us have another yorkie and told us she will try her best with teddy. she said there was a procedure that maybe can be done but it cost $6,ooo and she said she wouldn't recommend it because he was so tiny and young. she's been a breeder for over 15 yrs and never saw that happen to her babies. it broke her heart, broke our hearts too.. it been quite a while and i don't think he made it Last edited by ChubbyTn; 04-11-2007 at 11:59 PM. |

Oh, I'm so sorry that had to happen. Have you asked about him or have you been too afraid to ask? I know I wouldn't want to know. I'd rather think he was ok than to KNOW he wasn't. Lily doesn't run into things, once in a while she might stumble when she walks mostly she just starts to lay around and then she won't get up when we call her and if it's really bad, not to long till a seizure she won't respond other than to move her eyes. You can see she's looking around cause the hair on her face is so long that it moves when she moves her eyes. Sylvia

| I don't know what lactulose is exactly. All I can offer you is what we did when our baby was such a picky eater (she still is fussy but not to such an extreme degree anymore) and turned her nose up at everything while she was teething. Every four hours, if she refused to eat anything, we would force feed her some of the "mush" recipe a breeder on this forum recommended to someone: 1/2 cup half-and-half (for those in England, that would be 1 part cream to one part milk) 1/2 cup instant baby cereal (rice works best, but we use oatmeal too) 1 entire jar of baby food meat (anything but turkey) 1/2 tsp. karo syrup (any corn syrup will do or pancake syrup if no karo is available) Warm up the half-and-half and stir in the instant baby cereal until it thickens. Add the baby food meat and corn syrup. Make sure it is cooled to luke warm, then fill up one of those syringes they use to give babies their medication (available at the drugstore) insert it in the corner of your puppy's mouth and gradually squeeze the mush into it's mouth. Our puppy likes it so much now, she will just lick it from the syringe. If you feed this to your puppy every 2-4 hours, you may be able to add some weight. |

| no we haven't asked about him... the breeder said that she would try to find a family who can deal with him. it was a tough week because each time they have a seizure he'll lose one of hes brain cell so basically by the end of the week he didn't even recongized us it was so sad. |

| That's such a sad story. It's a shame that breeders are selling these sick puppies and causing such heartbreak for people. |
