I don't know what lactulose is exactly. All I can offer you is what we did when our baby was such a picky eater (she still is fussy but not to such an extreme degree anymore) and turned her nose up at everything while she was teething. Every four hours, if she refused to eat anything, we would force feed her some of the "mush" recipe a breeder on this forum recommended to someone:
1/2 cup half-and-half (for those in England, that would be 1 part cream to one part milk)
1/2 cup instant baby cereal (rice works best, but we use oatmeal too)
1 entire jar of baby food meat (anything but turkey)
1/2 tsp. karo syrup (any corn syrup will do or pancake syrup if no karo is available)
Warm up the half-and-half and stir in the instant baby cereal until it thickens. Add the baby food meat and corn syrup. Make sure it is cooled to luke warm, then fill up one of those syringes they use to give babies their medication (available at the drugstore) insert it in the corner of your puppy's mouth and gradually squeeze the mush into it's mouth. Our puppy likes it so much now, she will just lick it from the syringe.
If you feed this to your puppy every 2-4 hours, you may be able to add some weight. |
