| Lexi's got her results I got the results for Lexi today. I am really sad to say that she has MVD. I am so distraught. I am in total tears & pain over my baby girl........ she is my daughter. Yorkieluv if you are on tonight, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me if you know the manufacturer of Lactulose that makes the GREEN liquid instead of amber color. Lexi is having a hard time with that one. Also, Could you tell me the dosage of Milk Thistle & brand name. What form do I get it in & where can I get it? Lexi is 4 1/2 lbs. You also mentioned Denosyl. What is the dosage & manufacturer's name. She does not want to eat L/D. I have mixed it with chicken broth & I have also given her Royal Canin wet food. Neither are working. Please HELP! |

| Oh my gosh, I just saw your post!! I'm sorry I missed it...And I'm really sorry to hear that Lexi has MVD...I was hoping that hers was operable and that she would have a full recovery. But don't worry!! Lots of dogs have MVD and are able to live normal lives. The Denosyl is made by Nutramax Laboratories...Lexi being only 4 1/2 lbs would need the 90mg one...This must be give whole (don't break it up) or it loses its effectiveness completely..It also must be given on an empty stomach and no food for about an hour afterwards..So it's best to give in the morning. The milk thistle, you can get at any health store or place that sells vitamins/supplements. Liquid form will probably be easiest to administer if you can find it. Either way, the dosage is 1/4 of the human dose. OR you can get Marin which is also made by Nutramax Laboratories. Get the smallest dosage since she's so small. It's milk thistle with vitamin E and zinc which is very beneficial to the liver. If she doesn't like the L/D, you can ask your vet to prescribe the Royal Canin Hepatic LS 14. Miko hates Hill's products, but he actually likes the Royal Canin Hepatic diet...It only comes in dry food though, that I know of. If that doesn't work, a special homemade diet that I can give you that is Especially for liver compromised dogs. If you want it, let me know, and I will get it and post it or pm it to you. This homemade diet is what I have Miko on right now, and he's doing really well on it. It's real food and you know what's going into your baby's body that way. As far as the lactulose goes, I'm not sure about the other maker...But instead of trying to give her the lactulose through the syringe, just mix it into her food. It makes it so much easier. Miko HATES lactulose, so I have to put it in his food. If you do the special homecooked diet, you can just mix the lactulose in REALLY well right before you serve it, and she'll probably eat it right up. If she doesn't, then you can mix it into a little bit of low or nonfat yogurt that you can give her right after her meals. Lactulose has to be given with the meals or right after the meals. Right now, Miko gets 3-4 meals per day. If you need Anything at all, please let me know!! I'm praying for your little girl. Again, sorry I missed this earlier!
