| Help!! Riley is throwing up and has diareah. I'm really worried right now. After hearing all the stuff about the recalls, I decided I was gonna start cooking for Riley. He was previously on nutro dry and then I went to Petsmart to get something new and the lady there convinced me to give him Eukanuba for yorkies. I was hesitant but she convinced me. So, two days ago, I decided to stay away from store bought food all together. I made him boiled ground turkey and rice. He loved it but I think I gave him too much as he threw up. I wasn't too concerned and gave him more the next day. That night (last night) he threw up four times in my bed. I made sure he drank some water and he threw that up, too. So this morning I gave him the Eukanuba again. When I got home from work I saw diareah spots on the floor and I think his urine looked darker than normal (but I'm not sure). About an hour ago, he woke up and threw up two more times. Now I'm freaking out. I think it's probably because I've switched his food so much lately. I called the 24-hour vet specialty hospital and told them my situation. They said it's probably from switching the food, but to keep an eye on him and take him to my regular vet in the morning. She said their prices are 3 times more, which I know because I've spent more than $3,000 there as Riley has MVD. I'm gonna take him tomorrow morning, but I kinda feel guilty not going tonight. It's 2 am and about 30 minutes from my house. I'm so worried. Any advise???? |

| I'm so sorry he's having a bad night! Sounds a little extreme for just being from switching foods. You need to be very careful of dehydration. Throwing up that much and with it coming from the other end too he will get dehydrated very fast. I wish I could help you more. I'm sending my thoughts and prayers and hoping he feels better in the morning. Kim

| I ended up taking him in last night at 2 am and we got home at 5 am. It was a long night. The vet said he probably had too much protien for his bad liver. I feel stupid because I totally knew that. He was really hurtin and destroyed my room and bedding from his diarhea. Sorry to be so graphic. He's feeling better now. What a relief. |

| Wow! That is a long night, I bet you were tired today. I'm glad he is feeling better. Don't feel stupid, we all do things and then realize it was a mistake until after the fact (I know I have!). The important thing is that he is feeling better, and not sick any more . |

Sorry you had such a long night with him... know how it is and it always seems to happen during the night or a weekend when you are torn with what to do! It's not your fault..all this food stuff is crazy, not to mention the illness your baby already has going on!!! Hugs to you guys!

| the Eukanuba is not on the recall list, has no wheat or wheat glutten and is not made by menu foods. The dry Eukanuba is mfg. by proctor and Gamble and is completely safe. i hope your baby is better today. |

| I have experienced the same thing this week. The problem is that our dogs are used to certain foods and their stomachs are acclimated to those foods. I think alot of us care so much for our dogs that when this recall thing happened, our first thought was "Nothing but the best for my boy...I'm not taking any chances..." and we took them off the commercial food. The result was that many of these dogs have since suffered diarrhea and vomiting and, as a result, they're in very much the same boat as those dogs that ate the recalled foods...dehydrated and at risk for kidney failure. Ironic, wouldn't you say? (My Tahoe also suffers from ongoing liver problems and pancreatitis.) Anyway, give him lots of fluids. If you want to switch him to a bland diet of chicken and rice, I would gradually add it to his existing feeding of dry food. Regarding the point that was made about Eukanuba not being on the "recall list", I want to point out that I, for one, don't trust anything these companies say right now. How many companies do you think have NOT come forward because of the long term impact it will have on their market share? Eukanuba, Iams, Science Diet, etc. These are all premium, more expensive, products and the last thing they want to admit is that they are using the same contents in their foods as the cheap brands. It destroys their credibility in the industry and with the consumers. How many people have rushed to holistic/organic foods in the last week despite the fact that their dog's food ISN"T on the recall list? Can you imagine how many would if they WERE on the recall list? Yikes. The sad thing is that our beloved pets are just cash counts for much of this industry. How many uncaring vets (uncaring about your pet, but not about how much they charge for your pet's care) have you encountered...that are in it for the cold hard cash? How many manufacturers care little about what's IN the pets food as long as it sells? Why is Petsmart so willing to display dangerous "Greenies" as their impulse items at the register when Greenies are KNOWN to be dangerous choking hazards? Because it makes them money, that's why. So, pardon me for not trusting the manufacturers in this industry. My Tahoe, Oreo, Coco and Johnny Cash are my livelihood and probably the only children I'll ever have. They mean more to me than anything and I will do anything for them. I'm sure many here share those sentiments. I'm getting off my soapbox and this rant isn't directed towards anyone but the industry itself. ~ Kelly

| I'm so sorry Riley had a tummy ache - poor baby but what a great mom to jump right in and make sure that he is taken care of. With all the food recalls its scary - are we feeding the right things, have we done enough - it's just so hard to know anymore. Every day there seems to be a new recall or added food to the list. My heart goes out to you and Riley - I'm so glad he's feeling better. Just don't beat yourself up for switching food. My thoughts are with you and Riley.
