| update but yet ANOTHER problem with Kikko Hi All! its been awhile, and that's b/c I haven't had kikko for awhile. Last time i posted he was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea and pneumonia, which he ended up in the hospital for - and not able to bring him back home for 3 wks!!! Sooooooo ... I FINALLY got to bring him home last weekend! YAY! ... at least so I thought. First thing that happens when I arrive at home, he needs to poo - but he had diarrhea with some blood in it, barely had any appetite and wouldn't drink any water. I totally freaked out b/c I was just thinking 'what ELSE could the little dog be sick/going through?!?!?!' I take him to the vet asap, they do a fecal test, and there are TONS and TONS of bacteria in just one little sample (we got to see it on the tv ... kinda cool) so they give him a shot of antibiotics as well as some take home meds ... they told me to feed him only 5-10 pieces of kibble after each dose of meds. one day his poopy is normal and i was so happy! then next time, diarrhea..so back to the vet we go, and they find he has Giardia. FUN! so now he is on meds for that and has been doing GREAT (thank god) except for one thing .... yesterday he started to scoot his butt everywhere, and he whines and it just seems like he's in so much discomfort. I look at his butt and the skin is dry, kinda scabby in one area, and red - obviously irritated. So at first I thought it was something with his glands there, but he has been pooping normal, has a huge appetite, and drinks water like a camel (we go through so many potty pads now). I gave him a bath, my mom shaved his butt b/c we thought maybe poo was getting stuck. but even after he keeps scooting any thoughts? I've tried to sooth the dry skin by putting some aloe vera on it and a damp warm cloth. We have another vet appt on thursday, that's the soonest we could get in. |

| Antibiotic Reaction? It might be a reaction to the antibiotics and all the meds he's been taking. You should call the vet and ask. They'll probably tell you to so what you've been doing...keep his bottom clean and then apply a triple antibiotic ointment or cream to speed the healing. |

| Poor baby, he's been through so much! I'm so glad that he got a wonderful, caring Mommy like you to take such great care of him Yes, call the vet. He's been through the wringer and they should be able to help him feel better.

| I would also ask the vet about giving him some yogurt with probiotics. I know it is helpful when I have to take antibiotics so I would think it might be for our little Yorkies too. It helps restore the GOOD bacteria in the GI system. We need that for good digestion. It should help with the diarrhea too.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | poor baby !! also you may want to put vasaline on his little booty to take away any raw pain ...but it sounds like the vet needs to tell you why he's scooting - good luck - no puppy should have to go thru all that..... how old is he ?? |

| I'd call the vet first but a thought that came to mind is if it is an irritation Baumex works great. It's made for a baby's bottom for diaper rash, but I use it for irritation when I shave my bikini and I also use it for burns, etc. It really really is wonderful and what I like about it is that it doesn't get hard and clumpy like destitin does. Best of luck. Elaine |

| butt to ear? oky this is weird, as i was putting an antibiotic ointment on his little patootie, i noticed he has a scabby thing in his ear too!?! I have noticed him scratching his ear lately. he was checked last time for ear mites/ear infection and had the excess hair pulled out. i can't wait for our vet appt tomorrow. one nice thing has been that he's been having a good appetite and poopies, and the color of his gums are getting pinker every day. I look forward to the day where our vet visits will no longer become a 'every other day'/weekly routine.. but i'll do what it takes. oh villette, kikko is 4 months and 4 days ... he's soooo sweet and FULL of energy. its just toooo cute and has been quite exhausting trying to keep up with the little guy. hahaha. okay .. i have a TOTALLY stupid question, but i don't really know so i will ask anyway. so don't judge me! hahaha jk jk. so uhmm ... why don't the puppies have little balls? could that be causing the irritation? now i am officially embarrassed, but if anything i hope someone laughed .. b/c i'm laughing at myself. hahaha |

| once when maggie had coccidia she got like that and I would keep her butt cleaned really good then put neosporin on it and it finally cleared up. Even after taking the medicine for a week she started passing blood in it and then just some pure blood. So they had to give her another week of albon and antibiotics. hope your baby gets well soon. Sounds like you've really had your hand full plus the worrying not counting the baby hurting and being in pain. I am so sorry and pray she will get well soon. goodluck.

| just came back from the vet hi hi ...just came back form the vet, and the stuff on around his butt is due to a fungal infection and the vet says that he could have either gotten it from the floor, from his clothes, or the pet hospital he was at earlier. SO now I have to get the poor little puppy SHAVED! he'll look so funny. hehehe. then next week will be another vet appointment and I hope it'll be the last for awhile ... thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. |
