Pardon me, but that woman could not love the little guy that much or she would have taken him and left when the husband kicked him, and the children too. He is an abusive man and no doubt beats the wife and kids too. There is not way I would return any animal to that atmosphere. It's only a matter of time before he does something else wrong and gets kicked for it.

If his BUN is high and he has peeing issues he more than likely has a renal problem. Poor little guy!

It's Friday - hopefully, the little guy is already in better hands so he can be safe and warm and get the treatment he needs. Please update as soon as you can.

Default Very Sad Life for this Yorkie

Bettyeanne how are things going with the little yorkie, is he in a safe home now? How is he doing with the Kennel Cough, prayerfully he is improving.
I truely hope that this little yorkie will be placed in a loving home. It really saddened me, in my opinion the lady is not a responsable person. If she were, this little yorkie would not have had to endure this or any abuse from her husband. I also feel so sorry for the children to have to be in the midst of any abuse. I am praying that the little yorkie will be going to a new home. Is he now being cared for by someone else and are they able to keep him till he is placed? Glad there are folks such as yourself that step up and do what you can to help the situation be better, thank you on behalf of the little yorkie.

I can really appreciate how difficult it is to place dogs particularly ones with potty issues, and I can appreciate how much someone may believe they love a dog or have a sentimental attachment to it and have no idea what it means to be a responsible pet owner, and I can appreciate what hard work all this dog rescue is for you...BUT I BEG YOU PLEASE GET THESE PEOPLE TO SURRENDER THIS DOG!!!
(1) The dog has already been physically abused, if the potty issue is fixed who is to say he may not lick this monster one too many times and get "kicked across the room" again. The next time he may die, he may be seriously injured, and he definetly will be afraid and suffer psychological damage.
(2) The woman may "love" the dog, and be "sticking up for him" in some way, but she clearly has no idea how to be a responsible pet owner. NO RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER would allow there 2 pound dog to be placed outside to sleep in the cold, no responsible pet owner would keep a dog in a home where it is physically abused, and NO RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER WOULD FAIL TO RECOGNIZE that the care and treatment of this dog constitutes completely unjustified animal cruelty even if they take the dog to the vet, that does not mean they are a responsible pet owner.
(3) I cannot help but think this situation wreaks of domestic violence or at least raises my suspicions...I cannot think of another reason that a person who "loves" there dog would put it out in a cold winter night while it is sick, and weighs only 2 pounds, other than fear. Working at a DV legal clinic I cannot tell you how many times victims have had their pets hurt, tortured, or killed as a way for abusers to psychologically torture their victim. These situations tend to escalate and there is no telling what could happen to this innocent baby. At the very least this man has an anger managment problem and should not be around animals!

The problem here is not the urination, it is the owners that this dog had the misfortune of being placed with. If I were him I would be scared out of my mind and I may pee on the floor too! I beg you not to send him back to them. I just cannot imagine what will happen to him the next time he does not behave like a perfect gentlman, and no matter how much "love" this lady has there is something very wrong with the family picture.

Please let us know what happens. What area of Colorado are you in? My best friend will be traveling to CO for Christmas, and if you could possibly rehome him I would be willing to take him, and compensate your rescue and the original owners and would be able to have him transported here safely.

If that animal has lost his temper and kicked the poor puppy already - he will do it again. I feel for thewife and children also. I hope you get him in a safe home quickly. I wish I could take him but we are in NJ and I have two that I can't compromise with kennel cough but if worse comes to worse I could take him and seperate them.

I just found this thread, and it makes me sick to my stomach.

This little Yorkie probably has a peeing problem because it is a nervous wreck.

Who in the world could ever kick an animal, regardless of its size.

I don't see how this dog could survive overnight out in the cold temps.

My little girl has a difficult time just going outside to do her thing because it is only 5 degrees here. She has a down jacket on and booties, and she still hates it outside.

Please keep us posted on this terrible, abusive situation.

God bless you for watching out for this furbaby.

Unbelievable!

Kate

Thumbs up Positive update on this little one!

Sorry I haven't had an update until now! My friend [who is fostering this little one] couldn't let him come until his 10 days were up after the medication for kennel cough. She also took her's to our vet to make absolutely certain there would be no danger for them .... everything is fine. Evidently, the man "losing it" was a one time thing ... not excusing him by any means! And, no, he isn't an abuser of his wife & children. It's a very unfortunate situation where this little one was brought into a home and everyone wasn't onboard. The husband is not an animal lover but tried to tolerate it because the wife & children are just totally in love with the little guy! When she brought him over to leave with my friend, she sat in the driveway for 20 minutes crying her heart out. This is just a terribly sad situation and I can see both sides of the coin and it's heartbreaking. This is just more proof of what we have all tried to "preach" on this forum!! Do your homework and make sure everyone is in agreement before bringing one of these precious babies into your home .... regardless of how cute they are!

Having said that .... the observation that my friend is able to make this early, after only a couple of days, is that he just hasn't been properly potty trained due to lack of time on the part of the owner and all the stress in the home. He is a little sweetheart, bursting with energy and appears to be very social. She did say that he could probably stand to gain about another pound and knowing her, he will get the absolute best food, exercise, attention, etc. that he could ever hope for! So far, he is not peeing in her house but she has time to watch him like a hawk, take him outside and actually work with him. He is afraid of the doggy door but loves playing in the big backyard .... he has pottyed in the yard, but also will wait and pee/poop in the garage! She laughed and just views that as progress [she said that's what their powersprayer is for] ... and I agree! It appears that maybe he is already beginning to figure out "anywhere but in the house"!!! Today they will begin with a wee wee pad out there. The owner had tried the pad with no results. He gets loads of praise for even going in the garage! I really feel good about this little fella ... but I can't see him going back home. Thanks for everyone's concern and I will update this as soon as there is more progress!

I just saw this and I could have at least taken him to my vet while he got better. I have Bo and Duncan so I don't think home is an option with kennel cough. Thanks so much Bettyanne for taking care of the situation.

Thank you so much .... I can't take credit for handling this, my friend who is very experienced with rescue & fostering is handling it. I am just helping her with moral support and will help financially. If anyone can help this little fella, she can. She has been assured by our vets that it will be OK and she took all hers in to be checked, etc. just to be certain. If the "tough love" potty training doesn't work, then we will take him and all his records to our vet and if we can't get satisfactory answers, will probably bring him to Alameda East. The owners have already spent around $4000 in vet bills trying to find out if it's a physical problem. They took him to Banfield! All they did was keep calling them back for test after test after test and found nothing physically wrong with him!! We really think that it's lack of proper training and the stress/tension in the home. The thing that's absolutely amazing is that this tiny little creature is great with the 2 small children ... he just loves them! Thanks again and I will update as he progresses [and we really feel that he will].

OMG. I just came acroos the thread... I hope the dog will find a new home, one where his owner will have time to properly socialize and train him. Having huge love for animals is not enough, obviously, to own one. That comes with responsibility and persistance. Being in that unhealthy, frightening atmosphere every day of his life, no wonder that little boy has issues. And the owner didn't do much, it seems, to help the little guy in any way, if the dog got kicked, how mad can you get to hurt a little helpless dog??? . What would come next, I wonder. The dog had potty issues, mouthing and barking, it all comes out from stress and fear. Kids and wife's love for the dog isn't enough, I'd hate him to come back to that house. If only people did their homework more often before they give in to the cute face of a puppy
