Yorkie with broken pelvis Hello I am new to this forum. I am adopting a yorkie from a local shelter that I work at. He was found with a broken pelvis. The vet said he needs crate rest for up to 6 weeks. I am worried about carrying him and he needs a bath but I am afraid I will hurt him. He does not act like he is in pain, but sometimes walks with his rearend up in the air. Has anyone here had a yorkie with a broken pelvis? Any information you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

| I can't offer any advice but just want to tell you how much I admire what you are doing. How fortunate for this little Yorkie that you are there for him! Best wishes for a speedy recovery and long lasting friendship between the two of you!

Awww, poor baby I'm sorry that he's hurt, but glad that he's found someone to love him. I don't have any experience with a severely injured Yorkie, but I imagine that you could just use baby wipes on him if you are afraid to bathe him. He'll guide you on what's comfortable for him as far as holding him or picking him up. If you can, talk to the vet about this stuff so they can show you how to handle him. Do you know what happened to the poor darling? I wish you all the best and hope you'll keep us updated. This place is so awesome, I just found it a few days ago and am hooked, lol! Welcome~!

The vet said he could have been hit by a car or fell off a deck or something. Someone found him in the woods near their house, it had been really cold that night too. He was really scared and full of ticks and dehydrated. He tested negative for Lyme disease, but will need retested in 6 months to be sure. He came around fast, he doesn't like to be alone and loves treats. He is still at the shelter, until he is neutered next week, then I can bring him home. I am still trying to find a perfect name for him.

Poor poor thing To be left like that, in that condition! That' s just horrible, and I can't believe someone could be so cruel to such a defenseless being Good luck with his name I'm sure HE'LL let you know what it should be. I suggest Rocky, since he got so beat up and is still hanging in there.

Oh you are a wonderful person for adopting him I didn't have a yorkie with one but I did have a shelty. She got out of the underground fence and was hit by a car (driver did not stop) Any way the vet said the same. I had just had a baby but I slept on the floor with My shelty every night so she could be close to me. my bed room had hard wood floors and she could not move well. She would cry if I left her.I had to carry her One hand in the front at the chest and one hand between the back legs. If you tried to carry with the hand infront of the hind legs it hurt her. I would carry her out to go potty she walked but with pain. then pick her up and carry her back up the steps to the house. Good luck and God bless you for your wonderful act of kindness. Oh and Welcome toYt

Well little Harley(his new name) was neutered today. They tried to put his hip back in place but it would not go. They said the injury was too old and his hip and pelvis would eventually heal. So he is coming home tomorrow to meet his new brothers and sisters.
