| I think Diamond is sick :( I woke up today and let Diamond out of her crate to find a mess of poop and then either diarrhea or vomit. I couldn't tell since the whole blanket smelled like poop since she did that too. She hardly ever goes poop in her crate, only if she REALLY has to go. But then when I saw the vomit/diarrhea, I got worried. She was acting fine this morning but I didn't want to feed her that much incase she gets sick again. Last night, she ate A LOT of food. I have never seen her eat that much. I guess she was either really hungry or excited. I finally stopped giving her food last night because I was afraid of bloating or over eating. I took her outside on a walk, and I think maybe she may have eaten something outside? I don't know. This may be the dumbest thing you have ever heard but when we were coming inside, I noticed a frog by the door. I didn't even notice it until I looked down. I think Diamond licked it or something because she kept acting like she was licking/chewing after that but there was nothing in her mouth. Are frogs poisonous? She just happens to have a vet appointment today at 5 so I am glad I am taking her. I want to make sure everything is okay. I originally made it to see if she has any damage to her airways or throat from using the collar in the beginning. Luckily, she has a harness now from Tiger's_Mom! We both love it and it fits her perfectly!!!! Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated...I didn't know if I shoudl feed her rice today when I get home from work?

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | since you already have teh vets appt just wait till then and see what the doc says. i dunno if feeding her would help. it might have her vomit or have diarrhea again which could dehydrate her further.

| I just boiled chicken and put it in white rice. No it didnt work for me he had to be put on meds to get rid of it. But I thnk he had an infection. My vet always has you try to get rid of it first without the meds though.

| It probably was a toad the she licked, not a frog, and toads are not poisonous, but they do put out something very nasty tasting to ward off predators. It can make a dog foam at the mouth. I suppose it could have caused the upset, but overeating might have also. |

| I would have the petsitter give her some pedialyte, by syringe if necessary. By the time you get her to the vet, she could be dehydrated if she isn't drinking the meantime. I'd rather err on the side of caution. Hope Diamond is feeling better soon.

| Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Sissy recently went through some mild dehydration an it is scary to see how lethargic she got so fast. If you have a basic syringe from past medication, I would give her 1/2 tsp (or 2.5 ml) every hour - if you can) until she starts eating/drinking normally. When Sissy dehydrated, the vet gave her subcutaneous fluids and an anti-inflammatory injection and within a couple hours she perked right up. But she continued to not really eat or drink for the next day, so I did the pedialyte via syringe (once I had the syringe). The orange flavor should be okay. Your vet will advise on what/when to feed her, but the boiled, plain chicken and plain, white rice (not instant or quick rice) works well. She might continue with the diarrhea or she might not. It is hard to tell when the little tummy is upset. I'm sure she'll be just fine. It is very hard not worry

| Be sure that Diamond is drinking plenty of water. Pedialyte is GREAT but if you don't have it you can add a little kayro syrup to her water to be sure she doesn't run out of energy before the vet appointment. sending get well quick hugs] |

| She will probably be fine. I know that when puppies or children have diarrhea or seem to have an upset stomach - you do need to keep them drinking water so that they don't become dehydrated --- but it is often best to just skip food for a day or so. Upset stomachs often benefit from a rest...and, children and we, usually don't have much of an appetite anyway when our stomachs are upset -- which is probably best. So - don't try and force food or get your puppy to eat until after you visit your vet. Good luck - Carol Jean |
