I do the same with Annika only because she devours her food way too fast, forgetting to even chew the kibbles and it worries me . . . that is why she was bloated a few times and threw up. I definitely do not free feed her, nor Tiger even if he did not have any problems. I prefer to give them meals so I can monitor if they are eating or NOT.
