| need advice I have a Yorkie named GiGi, she is 11 yrs. old and the most prescious baby I have. She has slept with me all her life. Well you know the story when you own a Yorkie, they are our children. GiGi has a growth on her spine and it has paralized her front legs. The vet says if he operates it still may not do any good. I have to hand feed her and and put her in differant positions all day and night. Not a very good quality way of life for her.Not being able to walk or anything. I pick her up and set her down in the grass to do her business. And all kinds of things like that. She also has arthritis in her front paws. People say to put her down, a very hard dicision, any advice from anyone? Thanks. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am sorry about GiGi. i think it is a decision only you can make. I know when I had to put my last yorkie to sleep at 6 1/2 the vet who I really trusted said to me She's not enjoying life anymore she is struggling to breathe, I then knew what my head had been telling me but my heart wouldn't listen. I put her down that day to free her from her sickness. Good luck I know how difficult a decision that is.

I'm so sorry about your Gigi ...that is the worst decision to have to try and make - and you will know in your heart if that's the only one to choose - but perhaps she can benefit from one of the little wheelchairs/walkers they make for dogs ?

| I know someone whose dog is paralyzed from Lyme Disease. He is perfectly happy and capable of enjoying life. They take him for walks in a wagon. They are harder to care for, but as long as you are able to do this I don't see any reason to put him down, if they're not in any pain. I've had to put dogs down before and although it was a hard decision I always knew I made the right decision. My last dog was very large, old and arthritic. It was really hard, but the next day when I looked out and she wasn't there it actually felt good knowing she was no longer in pain. |

Been there too with my white eskimo years ago..........was so hard, but as you said........looking out that window and knowing that Pepper was in Doggy Heaven made is all better. So sad and hard to do though, will never forget that feeling of melting down the vets office wall ...............
