How often do you wash your Yorkies' things and bleach their sleeping area?

I haven't taken Angel out for a walk yet as I'm waiting for her new harness from Chattiesmom. Do you still take your Yorkies out for walks while they have the parasite? My cousin has a Yorkie named Lola. I don't want Lola and Angel to meet until her stool is clear cuz I'm afraid Lola will get it. I feel like I should keep my girl indoors until she's clear. Am I being paranoid?

Well, Angel had a bowel movement around 3:30 p.m. today, and I took a stool sample to the vet's soon after. They said the fresher the better. They're sending the stool to an outside lab so the results will take 1-2 business days. I just have to wait for the results. I'm praying it'll be clear!

Why is your pup not on metronidazole? I remember that was what Rio was on and I belive he was also on another antibiotic. Rio's diahrrea was completly gone and he was back to normal within 2 days after treatment. I am sure your breeder is trying to be helpful but after reading your first post I think you might want to listen to your veterinarian. Please let everyone know how he does, Good luck!

Well, I have good news. One of the vets from the clinic left a message on my machine and said that Angel's stool sample is negative for giardia. The treatment worked! I'm very relieved.

I am treating 4 puppies for giardia. We have NEVER had it in all these years BUT, I decided my babies needed to be exposed to the grass so I put them in an Xpen in our front yard, partly on the grass andpartly on the driveway. Well, that was a big mistake. I have 4 Biewers 4 months old on Panacur daily and Metronidazole twice daily. I mix my own Metro under the directions of the vet and calc the dosage for EACH puppy. Boy, that is not fun but I hope it works..I mix 250 mgms in 10 mls of Dyne which is a thick sweet supplement. They hate the taste of metro so this works for me...I have bleached all of their toys and scrub the floor with bleach and water. They don't act sick but boy, does their poop smell..BTW, nt all have the giardia but since they all are together, I treat them all.. Sooner or later, they rest will get it....A syringe works best for me to dose them.... GLAD Bella is neg now. Maybe I will have the same luck...

I was hoping to walk Angel outside for the first time now that I know her results are negative, but after reading your post, I'm paranoid that she may get giardia again and we'll possibly have to go through everything again. Since her results are negative, I assume it's ok for her to meet other dogs now? Good luck! | |
