I took him to my vet yesterday and he is now on meds for the runs.
He is almost a year old and weighs a little less than 2 pounds.
OMGosh he is tiny....Bless his heart - this doesn't sound good at all if his food is coming out of his little nose...

There are a few breeders here that have experience with this and will contact them and direct them to your post -

Bless his heart - this is so sad to read.

I think you have a real fighter there, one year old and with this condition, is he in good health otherwise, blood work.., etc? I feel from what you have said here that the Lord most definately has been taking care of him with this condition, (to be one year old) isn't that a miracle in itself ? I really can't tell you what to do but I do know what I would do if I were in your place. We will be keeping you in our prayers Little Man too.
Where have you taken him to? Is there a clinic near you where they have specialist Vets for this type of condition?
Sorry for all the questions, but are asked in sincerity for Little Man and you.

Patti
I know without a doubt the Lord has been taking care of him. He is a miracle all in his own right. The specialist ( surgeon ) said that there has only been four other cases of this in the US and that Wittle Man is the smallest ever to have this done. He is a fighter for sure but now I really worry. Before it didn't seem to really bother him that much and now it is like he has no energy. He just lays around.
I live in a fairly small town so I have to go to the Columbus area for anything like this. It is called Met Vet and there are specialists for different things there.

How has he been eating and drinking up to this point? I have never heard of soft palate hypoplasia, but with the function of the soft palate it would seem hard to reproduce a functioning one. What are the vets telling you the odds are? Was this a congenital defect presence from birth or is it missing due to cancer or some type of injury?
The odds are 50/50 just like the first surgery. But without this next surgery since the first one didn't work his odds are 0 basically.
He was born with this problem is all we can tell. At least that's what the specialists say.

Have you given him a bit of cooked rice with his food to help him with the loose stools and also what about smashing a little bit of cooked carrots and a bit of cottage cheese put in his food to entice him to eat, I have done this for Baby Blessing when she wouldn't want to eat, she then eats that. I have no insurance for him as I thought it to be a waiste of money. We took out health insurance on another one and never did get reimbursed for anything so we didn't do it this time.
Blood work and all came back fine.
Yes Wittle man is a fighter and has been up till now.

I didn't think the runs had anything to do with this either, and he is on meds so I hope and pray he perks up when that is gone.
He had not showed any signs of lung problems.

The surgery will cost about the same as the last one the surgeon said which was $1500.00. I don't think till he gets over the runs is he up to another surgery, but I am playing phone tag with the surgeon and have not yet heard back from him today. And now that it is a holiday weekend I bet I don't hear back till Tuesday which just makes me really mad.

I hope that someone on here has heard of what Wittle man has or knows something about it all and can give me advise.
I haven't been on here much at all in a long time because of all I am dealing with with my little one. So please bear with me and like I said if anyone knows anything I am open and reading all I can.

I am so sorry to hear about this problem and have only heard of it in human babies. Their solution was a feeding tube surgically inserted in the stomach to get the baby to optimum health (as much as possible) before making decisions about surgery. To me, that would be my choice to do....
I know y'all are tired of hearing about my heart of my heart, Jesse, that I had to have euthanized at age 3 years. His problem was NOT even similar to this but I am bringing him up because of the decisions I made. I did CPR and revived him at age 6 weeks. BUT, he had aspirated stomach contents and ended up with lung scarring which resulted in heart problems. He would get pneumonia at least 3 times a winter and just never really bounced back 100%.
So, his second winter, the vet and I decided we would not continue putting him thru the treatments and pain and difficulties the next winter if we could help it. I even placed him in other homes (lordy did that hurt) in case the stress or allergies from all my others was the cause of his on-going problems. That was not it so after his 2nd hosp adm during his third winter, I had to make the hardest decision a loving, caring pet owner makes, BUT his misery had to be ended. My vet and I cry about his death to this day, but it was right. So, what I am saying is this....no matter what decision you make it will be out of the goodness of your heart and what is best for the BABY....
BTW, the stomach tube works okay and can be removed if the doggy's palate can be repaired later on.
Bless you and that youngun and give him smoochies from Rini and the kids...

Im sorry if this was suggested before....
I did not have time to read all the posts.

Treating your boy as a cleft lip & palate baby is an alternative. No more surgeries, just let mother nature take its course.
Nothing other then dry food and water, no mush, no canned, no table food. Just dry food and fresh water only, always.

I dearly appreciate all everyone has said on here and I will certainly keep everything in mind.
I did how ever get him over the runs yesterday, so as I thought it was not related to his problem with his soft palate. I will wait to talk to the surgeon again hopefully on Tuesday before I make any decisions.
But I want to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and please keep them up, as that's all I need. I know the Lord will help me with all this.
He is back to playing today and acting like his old self before we had the first surgery. So that means he is playing again and running around here a little bit.
