| Very sick little guy I posted a while back about my Wittle Man, they first thought he had an enlongated palate. Well he had surgery which it was not what they thought. It turned out to be he was born without a soft palate. We had the surgery done which they took his tonsiles and made him a soft palate. When the surgeon came out he told me they could only make him 50% of a soft palate. Well one week later at his check up he had lost half of that. Then a week after that he had lost it all. So my decidion now is to have them go back in for surgery and best I can describe it is fillet his cheeks and make a soft palate. Which as we know nothing is guaranteed. Here is my decision I need to make......Do I pay the big $$$ and try again? Or do I give up? Do I let them just put him to sleep and let the Lord take care of him or do I continue to try and hope this one works. He is getting allot worst then he was before. I need help and prayers. He is my little Man and one of the loves of my life. I am so not myself over all this as I had high hopes the first surgery would do what he needed. here is a picture of my little guy. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Oh wow...All I can say if it were me I would try. It sounds like this can be iffy since you just did this surgery ....and I know nothing about it...but IF you have the means to try to save him ...maybe try again ? Will he survive without this surgery ? I can tell how much you love him I don't envy you this decision and that's so heartbreaking. Bless his heart - he's just gorgeous.....all the best to you and you will be in my thoughts.... |

| You are facing one tough decision. I have no experience with this sort of problem so I can't offer any advice, I can only send hugs and prayers. I am sure if you prayerfully place this decision before the Lord, HE will guide you in the right direction. Pray and LISTEN to the answer. |

| problem Hi... What is his quality of life like..is he handicapped by this problem to the point he is in pain or not able to enjoy life? Can he eat okay? He looks well in the photo..I would let Mother Nature do her thing unless he is suffering...the surgery sounds iffy...and he is such a wee guy. Best Wishes |

| If it's going to help him live a comfortable, good quality life, and if you have the means, then it would be worth doing what you have to do. What does your vet say about it ? I feel for you, sending you positive thoughts, please keep us posted. He's such a cutie, big hugs to him.

I think you have a real fighter there, one year old and with this condition, is he in good health otherwise, blood work.., etc? I feel from what you have said here that the Lord most definately has been taking care of him with this condition, (to be one year old) isn't that a miracle in itself ? I really can't tell you what to do but I do know what I would do if I were in your place. We will be keeping you in our prayers Little Man too. Where have you taken him to? Is there a clinic near you where they have specialist Vets for this type of condition? Sorry for all the questions, but are asked in sincerity for Little Man and you. Patti

| I'm really sorry you are having to make these choices. Maybe someone will post that has been through this. I would like to know more about it. How has he been eating and drinking up to this point? I have never heard of soft palate hypoplasia, but with the function of the soft palate it would seem hard to reproduce a functioning one. What are the vets telling you the odds are? Was this a congenital defect presence from birth or is it missing due to cancer or some type of injury? |

The picture I posted was about 2 weeks before the surgery. I am not sure that he is in pain, he sneezes, coughs, hack, and so on. The food sometimes comes out his nose since he does not have a soft palate. But here in the last several days he is not eatting well, and has the runs. He mostly lays around now as he does not seem like he wants to do anything else. I took him to my vet yesterday and he is now on meds for the runs. He is almost a year old and weighs a little less than 2 pounds.

We talked about if I did not have the other surgery and she seems to think he would only have maybe a month to live as he is getting worst.

| This a difficult decision...his size is so small...I would get him over the loose bowels and see how he perks up...I am sure that is not because of his palate...I would think he would be prone to lung problems with food coming out his nose at times..I wish you the best.. |
